International Alert (Alert) is an international organization headquartered in the United Kingdom that works to build peace by working with local civil society organizations through research, advocacy, capacity building, inclusive dialogue, and political and civic participation. In partnership with ARCT Ruhuka, International Alert is implementing a four years and nine months USAID funded Dufatanye Urumuri (Light) Project.
The purpose of the USAID Dufatanye Urumuri (Light) Activity aims to improve unity, resilience, and social cohesion efforts in collaboration with other stakeholders and partners at national and local levels. Using a combination of dialogue, media involvement, joint economic activities, and psycho-social support in 30 districts of Rwanda.
This project engages key actors including local leaders, teachers, FBOs to conduct dialogue on promoting unity and resilience. The project particularly targets youth (boys and girls) through dialogue, art for peace (narrative theatre), and media as a way of promoting a positive and peaceful vision of the future as they engage in community level discussions on historical legacies and conflict sensitive development using critical thinking approach.
In this regard international Alert is planning to hire a local consultant to conduct a training on “Narrative Theater Approach” for 120 community facilitators and 60 school facilitators. The training will be done in two rounds, one in the period from August to September 2023 and the second round from April to September 2024.
Purpose of the consultancy and objectives
These training sessions aim to equip community youth facilitators and school facilitators with skills to strengthen the social fabric among youth in the targeted communities and schools by stimulating creative problem solving and lessen the effects historical legacies of the country’s bad history and contemporary issues.
Specifically, this assignment has the following objectives:
Methodology
The methodology should allow interactions and active participation of trainees using various methods which are capable to gauge the knowledge and skills of participants before and after the training, keep participants active, engaged, motivated, and stimulate everyone while emotionally connected to the task and put them in the driver’s seat. Furthermore, the methodology should allow self-direction of participants, arouse the responsiveness on subjects presented, experience sharing while offering opportunities for practical performance by participants.

This consultancy is expected to be completed within 12 months starting from approval day of contract, with consideration of training periods of August -September 2023 and April-May 2024 for both community and school facilitators.
