Roots and Tubers Program Coordinator Senior Research Fellow

Job description
• Reporting to the head of Crop Innovation & Technology Transfer Department, the Roots and Tubers Program Coordinator Senior Research fellow, has the following
• responsibilities:
• Provide overall leadership and coordination of all activities including research, technology generation, technology transfer, dissemination and extension activities root and
• tubers crops based on priorities and policies of the country.
• Articulate research agenda for roots & tubers breeding, agronomy diseases or pest control
• Develop and implement roots & tubers research and extension in accordance with approved work plans and budgets
• Lead planning and overseeing research and extension services for massive dissemination of new technologies, innovations, knowledge and skills to farmers and other agro-
• industry stakeholders in the value chains of root and tubers crops
• Coordinate mobilization of financial resources for research through proposal writing for competitive funding.
• Ensure mentorship for scientists under her/ his supervision in Roots and Tubers Program in conception, planning, monitoring and evaluation of research and extension
• projects.
• Establish and maintain effective collaboration with other researchers, locally, regionally and internationally for the Roots and Tubers crops.
• Analyze, disseminate research findings and publish in peer reviewed journals, scientific conferences, books and book chapters, and extension materials
• Ensure the local, regional and international visibility of the institution through participating in meetings, seminars, conferences, extension services, and publishing research
• works for the Roots and Tubers crops.
• Ensure and sustain collaboration and exchanges with other Programs within RAB programs especially the plant microbial and biotechnology program, the Plant protection
• program for Pest and disease management and the seed division for the production of Early Generation seed categories and seed standards; etc
• Participating in developing and implementing the institutional work plan and budget execution of the budget approved, and institutional imihigo and performance contracts;
• Ensure a good budget execution and implementation of institution performance contracts;
• Ensure the adequate management of resources under his or her responsibilities for the institutional clean reports.

• Compile, edit and submit the quarterly and annual reports on the implementation progress of Roots and Tubers activities;
• Conduct regular meeting with the Program staff on progress of implementation of the work plan
• Undertake other duties as assigned by the Head of department and other RAB Senior Managers

• PhD in Plant Biotechnology

• PhD in Crop Production

• PhD in plant sciences

• PHD in Plant Breeding
8 Years of relevant experience
• PHD in Plant Genetics
8 Years of relevant experience

• Having led the generation of at least one (1) innovation or technology for agriculture development
• Having led the generation of at least one (1) innovation or technology for agriculture development. Having at least eight (8) years of relevant working experience in agricultural research and/or extension
• Having led the writing and won at least one (1) funded project for agriculture development
• Being conversant with national and sector policies and development agenda
• Proven experience to work with farmers and industry stakeholders in research and extension
• Capacity in project development and resource Mobilization
