  Water4Virungas
Water for Virungas is an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) project in DRC, Rwanda, and Uganda. It is being implemented by a consortium of 4 parties with MDF Global in the lead.
The project is aiming at reducing conflicts through increasing access to water and improving watershed management in the Greater Virunga Landscape. The project is making this contribution through an integrated approach. In Rwanda, W4Vs project is focusing on the improvement of watershed management.
The project is seeking an officer for a newly created position: Project Support Officer. The officer will work in a team and take up practical aspects which need ample attention in the field.
Job Description
Position Title: Project Support Officer, Rwanda
Duty Station: Musanze
Operational Field: Mainly: Rwanda (Rubavu, Nyabihu, Musanze, and Burera Districts), Occasionally: Uganda (Kisoro) and DRC (North Kivu)
Grade: Level 3
Contracted by: MDF Rwanda Ltd
Contract duration: 1 year, with possible extension.

Job Responsibilities:
• Document and do research on water collection techniques in Rwanda
• Guide park fence/Stone bunds’ implementations in the field
• Guide soil scan developments (use and embedding in organizations)
• Facilitate agroforestry (Tree nurseries)
• Ensure good collaboration, engagement, and implementation with partners and stakeholders related to the human-wildlife conflicts and the transformation activity in the project area.
• Assist in the implementation of the Farmers’ Action-Plan activity.
• Document and do research on water collection methods at the household level in the project area in Rwanda.
• Analyze water collection methods at the household level and the feasibility of development/implementation of a water-jar component (Water jar development).
• Responsible, together with stakeholders and beneficiaries, to gather information about the best solutions to construct and maintain a suitable park fence.
• Responsible for the planning, implementation, and supervision of the stone bunds activity in the field.
• Organize soil scan training/awareness for District and Sector agronomists and involve stakeholders to develop a sustainable Soil Scan Program (use and embed organizations).
• Monitor the implementation of the Agroforestry activity (Tree nurseries).
• Assist in the supervision and the guidance of specific topics in the Farmers’ Action-Plan activity.
• Collaborate with stakeholders regarding human-wildlife conflicts, to raise awareness in the local community and in a participatory way find solutions and implement those.
• Assist in the Monitoring and Evaluation/data collection, and give input to the Project Monthly Report.
• Maintain contacts with local partners, project beneficiaries and other stakeholders. Extend the existing local network.
• Assist interns/students in field data collection, in his/her scope of activities.

• Strong technical skills in Agriculture or water and environment management
• Diplomatic skills and capacity to work with conflicts
• Proven community development and capacity building skills
• Working knowledge of community-based planning and monitoring
• Working knowledge in community engagement
• Experience in soil and water conservation measures
• Willingness to work as part of a multi-cultural team
• Willingness to travel in remote areas in different countries

Working Relationships
Internal
The W4V Project Support Officer Rwanda will work closely with his/her counterparts in Uganda and DRC to ensure a cohesive approach across all implementing areas, with special attention to transboundary project sites.
External
The W4V Support Officer – Rwanda will routinely liaise with local government, civil society, protected area staff, and the private sector, representing the values and interests of MDF/Water4Virungas at all times.
This job description covers the main tasks and conveys the spirit of the sort of tasks that are anticipated proactively from staff. Other tasks may be assigned as necessary according to project needs.

Job Qualifications:
• Rwandan citizen
• Minimum BSc, MSc preferred, in which area Agriculture, Water resources management and other related fields
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in agriculture, Integrated Water Resources Management activities preferably in a development project context
• Fluency in English (written and spoken), Kinyarwanda. French is an asset.
