Job Description
We are looking for a highly experienced finance professional, with great leadership skills, who will develop and plan a well thought out financial strategy, which will allow Green Hills Academy (GHA), an international school in Kigali, meet its ambitious development and operational goals.

Overview
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the management of the finances of Green Hills Academy (GHA) as described below and reports to the Head of School. The CFO serves on the Senior Leadership Team and collaborates with other senior leaders to ensure the smooth operation of GHA. The CFO also contributes to strategic planning and achieving strategic goals.

Financial Management
• Generates accurate and appropriately detailed reports including statements of financial position, statements of cash flow, and analyses of historical and projected income and expenses, in addition to other special reports that may be requested
• Prepares and presents monthly financial reports for the Head of School, including variance analyses and forecasts
• Manages the annual budgeting process and collaborates with the Head of School and Finance Committee to develop annual budgets for approval by the Board of Directors
• Manages the capital expense budget and fixed assets
• Participates in the development of school strategy, providing recommendations, financial analysis, projections and other data to inform the process
• Works with consultants and lenders in obtaining and managing commercial funding

Accounting
• Oversees and ensures high professional standards in student billing and accounting for tuition and fees
• Organizes and manages accounts receivable and accounts payable to ensure accurate and timely receipts and payments
• Ensures account reconciliations and financial statements are prepared on a monthly basis
• Maintains inventory, fixed assets detail and the depreciation schedule
• Oversees the preparation for and ensures the timely filing of tax reports
• Communicates accounting policies to faculty and staff and ensures compliance with said policies.

Cash Management
• Manages bank accounts; reconciles account statements and investment gains/losses
• Takes an active role in banking relations, debt negotiations, and compliance, cash management and investing
• Reconciles and handles all incoming cash and checks and ensures accurate deposits
• Monitors and projects cash flow and cash needs

Audit and Control
• Monitors internal controls and safeguards confidential information
• Maintains relationship with the school’s independent auditors and prepares the schedules and work papers for annual audits
• Responds to auditor’s administrative recommendations in the management letter

Risk Management and Compliance
• Manages risk and insurance needs, including insurance reviews and recommendations, liability exposures and coverages, and any claims administration
• Ensure that the School is in compliance with all reporting requirements and applicable tax regulations
• Remains aware of legal changes that might influence school operations
• Collaborates with the School’s counsel and insurance agents regarding all legal and risk management matters

Strategic Financial Planning
• Develops strategic financial plans for consideration by the Finance Committee and Board of Directors
• Develops short- and long-term strategic financial models
• Collaborates with the Head of School to oversee the implementation of Board-approved strategic financial plans

Staff Management and Development
• Manages, supports, supervises and evaluates the members of the Finance Department, including the Operations Director, accountants and accounts assistants
• Encourages and supports the professional development of members of the Finance Department
• Shareholder Relationships
• Ensures that shareholders are fully informed about the School’s finances
• Manages the allocation of shareholders’ shares and loans

General Responsibilities
• Serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team
• Participates as a member of the Board of Directors Finance Committee and presents to the Board as requested
• Participates in school wide events, staff and committee meetings, and other events
• Keeps updated on current finance and business trends and activities in international schools
• Publicly represents the School in a positive and proactive way
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Requirements
• Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
• Minimum requirements are a CPA, ACCA or CFA; MBA preferred
• Five or more years of financial and business leadership
• Experience on senior leadership teams of large organizations
• Experience working in an educational setting is preferred
• Experience dealing with construction projects and their financing is preferred
• Experience in managing and developing staff
• Commitment to GHA’s mission and vision
• Growth mindset required
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Organized planner and project manager with proven ability to multitask, take initiative, prioritize effectively and deliver for multiple stakeholders
• Excellent technology skills and ability to learn new information management systems
