JOB PURPOSE

The Accounting & Reporting Manager develops and translates the Finance strategy into operational accounting policies, in close cooperation with the Finance Director and other Finance managers, based on the relevant business, legal, accounting standards and operational drivers. Manage and develop accounting personnel that can implement these plans and activities. Set accounting reporting policies, targets and controls to ensure that Bralirwa Ltd meets Heineken reporting time targets, standards and local reporting standards.

Context

Prepare high quality statutory and group financial reports for internal and external use. Ensure efficient end-to-end processes and business controls; Maintain accounting policies, standards and procedures, SCOA and CCCS custodian, Responsible for the preparation of the company’s accounting information/data to ensure completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all financial records and reports. Key contact person to internal and external auditors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES

Financial Close, Consolidation, and Reporting

  • Ensure the integrity and confidentiality of company financial records, accounts and information
  • Responsible for the preparation of the company’s monthly, quarterly and annual reports and accounts for MT and AME Region, in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards, Rwandan Company Laws and other local legal requirements.
  • Together with the Finance Director, Company Secretary and KPMG prepare the annual reports and accounts for distribution to shareholders and for the annual general meeting.
  • Key contact person with Financial Reporting Authorities, Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR), Rwandan Stock Exchange and responds to their enquiries and queries on the annual reports and accounts.
  • Responsible for monthly and annual financial close and reporting in SAP, Financial reporting in CIL and local Statutory reporting.

Leadership & Management

  • Direct management and supervision of the company accounting activities:
    • Purchase to Pay- Ensuring accurate financial management and control within HEINEKEN by establishing a systematic approach to processing supplier payments.
    • Order to Cash- Managing the end-to-end lifecycle of a customer order encompassing activities such as invoicing customers, receiving payments and ensuring a smooth and efficient transactional process.
    • Record to Report- Ensuring accurate, complete and timely recording, analysis and reporting of our company’s financial transactions.
  • Preparation of accounting instructions and targets to ensure smooth implementation and success of accounting activities
  • Lead and develop the accounting team, supporting skill development and fostering a collaborative environment. Ensure the dissemination and training on current Heineken and local accounting standards
  • Provide financial insights to support management decision making.
  • Train non-finance managers on finance topics
  • Implement finance excellence in Bralirwa Ltd

Control and Compliance

  • Formulate and monitor internal controls in the Accounting Department, implement improvements, and ensure adherence to legal and corporate requirements.
  • Champion Heineken Accounting standards and IFRS
  • SCOA expert and ensure prompt implementation and introduction of changes of Heineken accounting policies and reporting requirement in SAP.
  • Manage, together with IT, SAP master data to ensure integrity, accuracy, completeness and security of data

Accounting Business Process Owner

  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in accounting and reporting activities.
  • Monitor and challenge transactional performance
  • Liaise with the HEINEKEN Group to follow up on Change Requests or Incidents for continuous improvement.
  • Monthly Release Testing and End to End Testing.

Tax Compliance

  • In collaboration with the Tax and Treasury Manager, manage tax-related activities – direct and non-direct tax returns – income tax, VAT. PAYE Tax, withholding taxes and excise duty, etc.
  • Ensure that the company complies with all relevant tax laws by deducting, reporting and remitting all tax liabilities as and when due

Key contact person to internal and external auditors

  • Provide adequate information, explanations and records to the internal and external auditors to enable them to perform their duties
  • Follow up on all audit recommendations and formulate action plans to ensure proper implementation

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS

  • Education: Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics and possibly Commerce.
  • Experience: 7-10 years within industry and finance function; additional commercial experience is a plus, but not necessary.
  • Leadership: At least 2 years in a senior or managerial role.
  • Languages: Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda. French is an added advantage.
  • Technical: Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
