Environmental and Safequards Officer at Nyamasheke District (NYAMASHEKE): (Deadline 10 February 2026)
Responsibilities or duties
1. Under the supervision of Project Program Manager of Empowering Nyamasheke’s Vulnerable Communities project, the environmental and social safeguards specialist will be responsible of identifying and overseeing social safeguards issues and implementing appropriate measures in project’s implementation area.
2. Prepare, supervise and implement the activities related to environment and social safeguards ,
3. Ensure effective integration of social safeguard considerations into all aspects of consultation, planning and implementation of project activities;
4. Work closely with officials of District and sector in all process of social safeguards
5. Prepare all documents related to process of social safeguards activities,
6. Define and subsequently monitor, suitable social indicators for projects,
7. Provide social safeguards inputs to monitoring, evaluation and reporting activities,
8. Monitor the implementation of the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP), Stakeholders Engagement Plan (SEP) and Gender Action Plan (GAP),
9. Follow up of the environmental aspects in projects sites
10. Prepare and Submit the daily situational report, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual project activities reporting as needed
11. Support and guide Project Manager and District Officials in technical matters related to Project Environmental and Social Safeguards and ensure the quality reporting;
12. Immediately report to Project Manager and District Officials of any incident happening at the site (Staff/workers accidents, any environmental catastrophes, etc);
13. Facilitate and ensure trainings of Environment & Social Project stakeholders, community and local institutions in environmental management including community health and safety;
14. Oversee all the Environmental and social aspects of all project activities implemented under the Project;
15. Assist the Project Manager in analyzing technical feasibility of project activities during implementation, with particular emphasis on environmental, social, health and safeguards issues;
16. Assist the Project Manager to respond to the technical support requests from the community, private operators, and other beneficiaries of the project and take necessary actions;
17. Perform any other relevant tasks as assigned by the Project ManagerResume building service

Experience with donor funded projects and prior implementation of donor’s safeguards policies, including World Bank/ADB/AFD financed operations.(Proof Required)
Field Experience: Evidenced experience in conducting field studies, environmental sampling, and site assessments.(Proof Required)
Specialized Knowledge: Expertise in specific areas such as air quality, water resources, soil contamination, or wildlife conservation.(Proof Required)
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze environmental data and assess the impact of environmental projects.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with environmental laws, regulations, and standards at local, state, and federal levels.
Technical Skills: Capacity to conduct training in topics relevant to environmental risk management and other areas and proficiency in using environmental monitoring equipment and software for data analysis.
Report Writing :Strong ability to write detailed reports, environmental impact assessments and present reports in public.
Project Management : Skills to manage and oversee environmental projects, including budgeting and scheduling.
Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with stakeholders, colleagues, and regulatory agencies
Problem Solving: Ability to identify and resolve environmental issues and challenges
Teamwork: Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
