The Laboratory Technician supports laboratory operations by carrying out sample preparation, assisting in routine analyses, and maintaining laboratory equipment and cleanliness. The role ensures that samples are handled efficiently and accurately to support reliable analytical results for mining and exploration activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare samples for laboratory analysis including drying, crushing, splitting, and pulverizing.
- Assist the Laboratory Analyst in conducting routine tests and analyses.
- Ensure correct labeling, registration, and storage of samples.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory and work areas.
- Clean, inspect, and perform basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines at all times.
- Assist in QAQC procedures by preparing and handling control samples.
- Record basic laboratory data accurately as instructed by the Laboratory Analyst.
- Support proper disposal of laboratory waste in compliance with environmental standards.
- Report any equipment faults, safety hazards, or irregularities to the Laboratory Analyst.
- Ensure availability of consumables and inform the Laboratory Analyst of shortages.
- Performs any other task/s required by his/her Superior or and Management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Sciences, Chemistry, Geology, or related field.
- 1 year of experience in a laboratory environment (experience in mining laboratories is an added advantage).
- Basic knowledge of sample preparation techniques and laboratory practices.
- Understanding of laboratory safety and handling procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to standard procedures.
Competencies:
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively under supervision.
- Teamwork and communication skills.
- Strong sense of responsibility and discipline.
Work Environment:
- Primarily laboratory-based work.
- Involves physical activities such as handling samples and operating equipment.
- May involve exposure to dust, noise, and chemicals, requiring proper use of PPE.
