About the Position

Mantis EPIC Hotel & Suites is seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Technician to join its Maintenance Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the hotel's mechanical assets and infrastructure, ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all mechanical systems and equipment. The incumbent will implement preventive maintenance programs, support operational excellence, and ensure compliance with company standards and applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Maintenance and Operations

  • Ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of all mechanical installations throughout the hotel.
  • Maintain and monitor mechanical systems in guest rooms, kitchens, laundry facilities, and other operational areas.
  • Ensure air-conditioning systems, refrigeration equipment, and machinery operate efficiently and are maintained to the highest standards.
  • Support the expansion and improvement of the hotel's mechanical infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases of all mechanical equipment, including refrigerators, ice makers, air conditioners, and Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) systems.
  • Prepare and submit regular technical reports to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Perform Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) according to approved schedules.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance requirements and equipment performance issues.
  • Respond promptly to guest complaints and departmental maintenance requests.
  • Maintain utility consumption records, meter readings, and equipment maintenance logs.
  • Recommend and maintain appropriate stock levels of maintenance materials and spare parts.
  • Review and verify maintenance-related invoices.
  • Maintain updated technical documentation, including blueprints, diagrams, manuals, and equipment records.
  • Support environmental sustainability initiatives, including recycling programs.
  • Knowledge of plumbing systems will be considered an added advantage.

Compliance and Regulatory Requirements

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with government authorities, inspectors, and insurance representatives when required.
  • Maintain documentation demonstrating compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in environmental and social responsibility initiatives undertaken by the hotel.

Teamwork and Communication

  • Foster positive working relationships across all departments.
  • Communicate effectively with department heads regarding maintenance activities and projects.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to departmental objectives.
  • Support a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Health, Safety, and Security

  • Identify and eliminate potential safety hazards promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with hotel fire, emergency, evacuation, and security procedures.
  • Promote health and safety awareness among employees and contractors.
  • Ensure all maintenance work is performed safely and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Protect the safety of guests, employees, and hotel property.
  • Maintain high standards of personal presentation, professionalism, and conduct.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (A0) in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related field, with a minimum of two (2) years' relevant work experience; OR
  • Advanced Diploma (A1) in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related field, with a minimum of three (3) years' relevant work experience.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering systems, standards, and maintenance practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to guide, mentor, and support colleagues.
  • Maximum age: 40 years.

Additional Information

  • Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered.
  • Successful candidates will be required to submit a valid Criminal Record Certificate.
