The Project

Within the Special Initiative "Decent Work for a Just Transition", implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, sequa implements the SME Support Scheme, which targets growth-oriented SMEs in Rwanda. The project aims to facilitate business growth and job creation by increasing the competitiveness, productivity, and market readiness of Rwandan SMEs, with a focus on women-owned businesses and decent work creation.

The SME Support Scheme supports selected medium-sized enterprises, including Milimani Enterprises Ltd, with growth and job creation potential. Milimani is a women-owned bakery-ingredients manufacturer and food-solutions company based in the Gahanga Industrial Area, Kigali. It serves bakeries, food producers, hotels/restaurants, and distributors with locally manufactured baking inputs, traded goods, and customer support services.

The scope of this assignment is to support Milimani through two connected workstreams: (1) a practical Odoo system audit, implementation of recommendations, and staff retraining; and (2) strengthened financial management, costing, reporting, and investment planning. The assignment does not include a full ERP re-implementation or custom software development; it should focus on practical improvements that make Odoo data reliable for management decisions.

Your Tasks / Responsibilities

Work Package 1- Odoo system audit, improvement, and staff retraining:

  • Audit the current Odoo setup, workflows, user access rights, master data, chart of accounts, reporting structure, and day-to-day user practices across sales, procurement, stores, production, logistics, and finance;
  • Assess data quality and how operational entries flow into financial outputs, including effects on costing, margins, stock valuation, receivables, payables, cashflow visibility, and management reports;
  • Identify and implement practical Odoo recommendations and quick fixes within the agreed scope, including improved workflows, master-data discipline, reporting routines, user roles, data-entry controls, and report templates;
  • Retrain relevant staff from sales, procurement, stores, production, logistics, and finance on correct Odoo data entry, transaction discipline, stock movements, sales/purchase processes, and how their daily entries affect financial reporting;

Work Package 2 - Financial management, costing, reporting, and investment planning:

  • Review financial statements, management reports, Odoo reports, inventory records, receivables, payables, loans, and current cashflow planning practices;
  • Develop or improve monthly management accounts covering revenue by business line, gross margin, operating costs, stock movement, receivables, payables, cash position, and key performance indicators;
  • Improve product/service costing and margin analysis for priority product lines, including manufactured bakery ingredients, seeds/nuts, traded goods, repackaging, distribution, and customer/channel profitability;
  • Develop a 12-month cashflow and working-capital model covering sales growth, inventory, receivables, payables, loan obligations, taxes, payroll, and planned investments;
  • Train the finance/management team on the developed tools and provide a concise final report with implemented Odoo improvements, remaining risks, templates delivered, and recommendations.

Your Qualifications / Skills

Education/training: University degree or advanced professional qualification in finance, accounting, business administration, economics, management accounting, ERP systems, industrial engineering, or a related field;

Professional certification: ACCA, CPA, CIMA, CFA, Odoo certification, ERP/accounting systems training, or comparable professional qualification is a strong asset;

Languages: Excellent working proficiency in English required; Kinyarwanda is a strong asset for staff engagement;

Other skills: Hands-on Odoo skills; strong Excel/financial modeling skills; ability to train non-finance staff; ability to translate ERP data-quality issues into practical financial management improvements; strong facilitation and report-writing skills.

Your Working Experience

General professional experience: At least 8 years of professional experience in Odoo/ERP advisory, SME finance, management accounting, financial modeling, accounting systems, business advisory, or corporate finance;

Specific professional experience: At least 5 years of hands-on Odoo experience with SMEs, including sales, purchases, inventory, manufacturing/production, accounting, costing, reporting, and user training;

Sector experience: Demonstrated experience with manufacturing, agro-processing, food processing, FMCG distribution, wholesale/trading, or bakery/ingredients businesses is an asset;

Regional/other experience: Professional experience in Rwanda or East Africa and familiarity with local banking requirements, asset-based finance, grant finance, tax/payment realities, SME cashflow constraints, and donor-funded private-sector development projects is an asset.
