The National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) would like to recruit self-motivated and qualified candidates to fill the following positions.

Responsibilities or duties

Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Export Services Division Manager, the Pack House Officer will perform the following duties:

  • Manage daily packhouse operations to ensure fresh produce is sorted, graded, and packed to meet quality, food safety, and export standards.
  • Receive fresh produce at the packhouse and ensure its compliance to food safety requirements;
  • Monitor and record (inventory control) of entry and exit of fresh produce that is being handled into packhouse;
  • Conduct food safety inspections and quality checks;
  • Monitor the reception of production from farm to packhouse and finally to the airport for export
  • Ensure the supervision of the handling process in the Packhouse;
  • Monitor that all horticulture commodities for export adhere to established standards
  • Ensure the packhouse adheres to cleanliness (GMP) standards, and coordinate maintenance to minimize downtime of equipment and materials
  • Supervision of all packhouse activities related to post harvest handling for horticulture products for export efficiently.
  • Advise on proper pre- and post-harvest handling in compliance to the quality standards;
  • Ensure proper implementation of food safety systems and certification in the packhouse;
  • Maintain good relationships with stakeholders in the export of fresh produce;
  • Other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology, Food Biotechnology.
  • Have professional training in inspection of agricultural export products;
  • Professional training in perishable product handling;
  • Proven ability to implement international quality standards;
  • Organizational and planning skills;
  • Possess good and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work for both day and night shifts.
  • Working knowledge in English, French and Kinyarwanda

Experience needed

  • Experience in post-Harvest handling and crop protection will be an added advantage.
