Background information about the job or company

All faculty work within Rwanda Polytechnic and coordinate with the Ministry of Health, Rwanda Biomedical Center - EMS Division, Rwanda Biomedical Centre, and teaching hospitals hosting clinical rotations.

Responsibilities or duties

Serves as the technical lead for the program: guides curriculum implementation and faculty development, support a multidisciplinary teaching team of doctors, nurses, and anesthetists, and builds partnerships with international paramedic institutions for knowledge transfer and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the academic and operational establishment of the school, overseeing curriculum rollout, teaching schedules, clinical rotations, and simulation-based learning aligned with WHO and African regional EMS standards.
  • Mentor local faculty, develop training-of-trainers materials, and run workshops and skills labs for continuous professional development.
  • Supervise clinical placements.
  • Build international academic partnerships, lead research and quality improvement work, and represent the program in national and international forums where applicable.

Qualifications or requirements

Essential:

  • Master's degree or higher in Paramedicine or Emergency Medical Services; at least 8 years of field and academic experience as a licensed paramedic with evidence of teaching or program leadership; experience developing or teaching competency-based EMT curricula; sound understanding of ambulance operations, emergency protocols, and inter-facility transport; with strong interest and experience in digital health applications.

Desirable:

  • Experience establishing EMS or paramedic programs in LMIC settings; use of digital health solutions such as telemedicine; familiarity with African or WHO emergency care frameworks; and excellent mentorship and cross-cultural communication skills.
