Job Summary
The Senior Manager – GSE Maintenance is responsible for providing strategic, operational, and technical leadership for RwandAir's Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Engineering Services. The role oversees the maintenance workshop, engineering support services, and stores operations, ensuring equipment reliability, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and financial performance.
The position also leads engineering projects, drives continuous improvement initiatives, manages departmental budgets, and ensures the delivery of safe, cost-effective, and high-quality engineering services across Kigali and Kamembe operations.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement the Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Engineering strategy aligned with the airline's business objectives.
- Lead the Engineering Management team in delivering best-practice maintenance and engineering services.
- Drive engineering transformation, organizational change, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and evaluate engineering business cases and capital projects.
- Partner with internal departments to identify operational improvements and process optimization opportunities.
- Champion innovation and modern engineering technologies to improve operational performance.
- Monitor engineering safety performance and ensure compliance with safety and environmental policies.
- Contribute to the airline's long-term strategic growth initiatives.
Operational Management
- Oversee daily operations of the GSE workshop, stores, and engineering support services.
- Develop departmental work plans, objectives, and performance indicators.
- Monitor and deliver departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Ensure timely maintenance, repair, and servicing of Ground Support Equipment.
- Introduce and maintain engineering best practices, quality standards, and operational procedures.
- Lead business process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Ensure compliance with maintenance schedules, quality assurance standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage engineering resources effectively to maximize equipment availability.
Financial Management
- Prepare and manage departmental operating budgets.
- Monitor expenditure and ensure cost-effective utilization of resources.
- Conduct financial analysis and support cost-saving initiatives.
- Ensure efficient allocation of engineering resources while maintaining service quality.
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, supervise, coach, and mentor engineering managers and technical staff.
- Establish departmental goals aligned with organizational objectives.
- Recruit, train, develop, and evaluate employees.
- Promote employee engagement, teamwork, and succession planning.
- Foster a high-performance and customer-focused culture.
Safety, Security & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with aviation safety regulations, engineering standards, and company policies.
- Promote a strong health, safety, and environmental culture.
- Investigate and address incidents, hazards, and near misses.
- Ensure all staff receive appropriate safety training and supervision.
- Monitor compliance with environmental management policies and sustainability initiatives.

- Keep abreast of emerging engineering trends, legislation, and industry best practices.
- Participate in emergency response and business continuity activities as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline.
Experience
- Minimum of eight (8) years' relevant engineering experience, including senior management responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience managing Ground Support Equipment (GSE) workshops or industrial/heavy equipment maintenance operations.
- Executive-level management experience.
- Experience leading large multicultural technical teams.
Preferred
- Experience working within a major aviation or blue-chip engineering organization.
