Background
Trinity Musha Mines Ltd is a mining company involved in the processing and exploration of Tin, Tantalum, and Lithium in Rwanda. Trinity Musha is inviting qualified candidates to apply for the following positions:
Job Purpose
To safely, efficiently, and legally operate approved machinery in cutting, gathering, and loading ore, while adhering to safety measures related to ventilation, dust control, gas monitoring, ground support, exclusion zones, isolation, and machine interaction with transport.
Responsibilities
- Attend pre-shift briefing and confirm approved cutting methods, minimum entry depths, ground support methods, ventilation, dust control plan, ore transport methods, communication signals, exclusion zone, and escape route.
- Only perform work when scheduled, fit for duty, trained, operationally assessed, and authorized to operate a specific machine (type and model), remote-control system, and assigned underground area.
- Do not enter or cut before a competent supervisor declares the work area safe; inspect roof, walls, cut face, floor, ground support, water, ventilation, auxiliary equipment, visibility, gas levels, and ore pass.
- Complete and sign pre-start checklist including: cutting section and cutting bits, boom, gathering head, buckets, conveyor, tailpiece, chains, hoses, cables, guards, scrubber, water sprayers, gas detector, alarms, lights, emergency stops, fire extinguishers where required, proximity detector, and remote-control.
- Do not operate a machine with a serious safety defect; stop it, isolate it, lock it out, tag it, and prevent its movement, report the defect, and await written authorization for its use after repair and testing by a competent person.
- Test and maintain remote-control system, confirm machine compatibility, retain control of the transmitter, and prevent unintended or unauthorized machine startup.
- Establish and monitor exclusion zones around machine turning areas, chain conveyors, pinch points, cutting and gathering heads, conveyors, and tailpieces; stop immediately if a person enters an exclusion zone.
- Operate on the designated safe side with adequate ground support, good visibility of the machine, cut face, and ore pass; do not stand beside a moving machine or under unsupported roof.
- Confirm required ventilation, curtains, hoses, scrubbers, and water sprayers are in place and functioning correctly; perform required gas checks, stop, and vacate the machine if ventilation fails or gas levels reach action levels.
- Do not cut without adequate water flow, sprayers, scrubbers, and dust collectors; monitor return air and prevent personnel entry into dust and return air.
- Sound alarms, check routes, and proceed slowly; protect cables, ventilation controls, ground support, and personnel, watch for bad floor conditions, and align cutting head with the approved cutting line.
- Cut (slump and shear) in controlled stages, to approved sump depths, shapes, and levels, while monitoring load, vibration, dust, gas, fumes, and ground movement.
- Operate gathering arms and conveyors smoothly to prevent jamming or spillage of ore; never operate, insert hands, or remove obstructions while the machine is energized; always confirm residual power is dissipated before removing an obstruction.
- Coordinate loading with shuttle cars, trucks, or other transport using approved signals; maintain clearance, prevent personnel entry between machines, and stop if visibility, communication, or coordination is lost.
- Do not exceed approved unsupported cutting depths or distances; upon reaching a boundary, stop, lower the boom, block access, vacate, and await installation of support and increased ventilation before commencing.
- Cut short sections in bad ground, never operate or travel under unsupported roof, and confirm roof and walls are safe before removing a disabled machine or performing repairs.
- Monitor cables, motors, hydraulics, and heat from friction; stop if smoke, fire, fumes, damaged cables, or excessive heat is present, de-energize, and follow mine emergency procedures.
- Park in a designated supported area, lower cutting and gathering heads, place all controls in neutral, de-energize, isolate where necessary, secure the transmitter, and complete the post-use checklist.
- Never bypass guards, interlocks, emergency stops, proximity detectors, gas monitors, or water sprayers; never ride on a machine, perform unauthorized repairs, or leave a machine energized unattended.
- Complete start-up, gas, ventilation, production, cutting tool change, defect, repair, PTO, and capability records, and report any accidents, near misses, and failed inspections immediately.
- Comply with Rwanda Mining Law N° 072/2024, mining health and safety requirements, Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board requirements, Trinity Musha Mine regulations, approved ventilation, ground support, transport, and isolation procedures, Continuous Miner operating procedures, and the OEM manual.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Possession of a valid driving license of category B and F.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the profession.
- Note: Applicants for the LHD/ Scoop Tram Operator position must know how to operate a Wheel loader.
- Applicants for the Continuous Miner position must know how to operate an Excavator.
- Successful completion of company induction and approved theoretical and practical training for Machine Operator.
- Operational capability assessment and formal authorization to operate the specific machine type and model, remote-control system, and assigned underground area.
- Valid medical certificate suitable for operating underground mobile equipment and the physical demands of the job.
- Demonstrated knowledge of cutting methods, ventilation and ground support plans, dust control, gas monitoring, isolation and lockout procedures, remote-control safety, exclusion zones, machine-transport interaction, and emergency procedures.
- Ability to identify defective equipment, unsupported ground, ventilation failures, excessive gas levels, unusual vibrations, extreme heat, electrical hazards, and unsafe personnel or transport interactions.
- Ability to maintain a safe operating space, focus on the task for extended periods, retain remote-control operation, and communicate effectively during cutting operations.
- Accurate completion of inspection, production, gas, ventilation, defect, repair, and capability records.
- Punctuality, strict adherence to instructions, and willingness to exercise the authority to stop work whenever a critical safety issue arises.
