Project: Pilot SME Support Scheme targeting growth-oriented SMEs in Rwanda in the GIZ-Special Initiative "Decent Work for a Just Transition"

The Project

Within the Special Initiative "Decent Work for a Just Transition" of the German Federal Ministry on Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented among others by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, sequa implements the project "Pilot SME Support Scheme targeting growth-orientated SMEs" in Rwanda. sequa aims to facilitate business growth and job creation of Rwandan small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by increasing their competitiveness and productivity so that their products and services will satisfy the demand on local and international markets. A specific focus will be provided on women-owned SMEs, job creation, and employability training for women. No sectoral focus is foreseen.

Benefiting companies receive flexible and demand-oriented funding (management consulting, technical training, financial competence/business plan development, qualification, applied research activities, etc.). The support scheme will contribute to SMEs' change management and business growth.

The SME Support Scheme supports five medium-sized enterprises with growth and job creation potential.

The scope of this assignment is to support Incuti Foods Ltd, a Rwandan SME, in accessing international and export markets, improving competitiveness, and identifying new market opportunities.

Your Tasks / Responsibilities

  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential international markets for Incuti Foods' products.
  • Guide Incuti Foods in understanding regulatory requirements, cultural preferences, and competitive landscapes of target markets (especially, West Africa: Nigeria and Ghana; Middle East: UAE, Qatar, and Oman, Europe: France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, and the US).
  • Develop tailored market entry strategies, including pricing, distribution channels, and targeted marketing plans for each identified market.
  • Assist in establishing connections and facilitating partnerships with potential distributors and partners in target markets.
  • Provide strategic recommendations and actionable insights to ensure successful market entry and sustained growth.

Your Qualification / Skills

  • Education/training: University degree (master's or equivalent) in International Business, Marketing, Economics, Trade, or a related field.
  • Languages: Full proficiency in English (spoken and written); proficiency in Kinyarwanda is desirable.
  • Other Skills: Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills; ability to effectively engage with international stakeholders; excellent reporting capabilities.

Your Working Experience

  • General professional experience: Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in international trade, export market development, or business consultancy.
  • Specific professional experience: At least 5 years of direct experience in developing market entry strategies, international business development, or export promotion.
  • Regional experience: Previous working experience in Rwanda or East Africa is strongly preferred.
  • Other experience: Proven track record of successfully guiding SMEs, preferable in the condiments sector, into international markets and establishing international business networks.
