This position is remote-eligible and only for consideration for the WRI Rwanda or WRI Kenya offices. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission. WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position.

About the Program:
WRI’s Global Restoration Initiative is accelerating restoration progress as the Secretariat and catalyst for key regional initiatives such as the African Forestry Restoration Initiative (AFR100, 32 countries committed to restore 120+ million hectares by 2030) and Initiative 20 x 20 (18 countries in Latin America committed to restore 50+ million hectares by 2030). The Global Restoration Initiative operates through three pillars:

• Enabling decision makers to meet ambitious restoration targets through political mobilization and programs like the Policy Accelerator
• Informing stakeholders and restoration implementers with cutting-edge data, monitoring, and tracking tools through Land and Carbon Watch, TerraMatch, and other digital platforms
• Investing in smallholder restoration through entrepreneurs and communities with direct capital (TerraFund for AFR100) and capacity building (Land Accelerator/TerraMatch)

TerraFund for AFR100 | TerraMatch

Job Highlight:
TerraFund partners have established a monitoring, reporting, and verification method that uses a mix of independent drones, field surveys, and satellite analysis as well as geotagged photos and reporting through TerraMatch, a SaaS (software as a service) MRV platform. You will play the most critical role. You will assess and vet site and project boundary shapefiles from 100 non-profit and businesses to ensure that all analysis is done with accurate information from the project.

You will complete a quality assessment of site shapefiles and manage the log of shapefile status of our 100 TerraFund champions.

You will be supported by the Restoration Inform team, which comprises of GIS/remote sensing specialists and data scientists, TerraMatch product team, and TerraFund project managers.

What you will do:
Shapefile Quality Assessment (100% time)
• Activity 1. Collect shapefiles from Project Monitoring Manager at WRI
• Activity 2. Convert KML, GeoJSON or GPS points into shapefile (.shp) polygon format
• Activity 3. Digitize/edit polygons to ensure that boundaries are precise via high resolution satellite imagery (Google Earth, High resolution basemaps, etc.)
• Activity 4. Edit shapefile attribute tables that reflect the correct columns and fields are represented
• Activity 5. Create a logfile that records shapefile QA status
• Activity 6. Communicate results and deliver shapefiles to Project Manager What you will need:
• Education: You have a BA in Geospatial Information Systems, Geography, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Experience: 5+ years of experience working with shapefiles and ArcGIS
• Languages: You have verbal and written proficiency in English, French is considered aplus.
• Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization.
