About Rwanda Women’s Network
Rwanda Women’s Network (RWN) is a national non-governmental organization founded in 1997 in the aftermath of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, with a mission to promote the holistic empowerment of women and girls in Rwanda. For over two decades, RWN has been at the forefront of advancing women’s rights, gender equality, leadership, health, economic empowerment, and peacebuilding, with strong grassrootsroots in both rural and urban communities.
RWN implements community-driven and rights-based programs addressing gender-based violence, women’s leadership, economic justice, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), land and property rights, and climate justice. Through its flagship Women Safe Spaces (WSSs) model, RWN provides safe, empowering, and transformative platforms where women and girls access psychosocial support, leadership development, skills training, and opportunities for collective action.
RWN places strong emphasis on girls’ leadership and voice as a foundation for sustainable change. Through its Girl Champion Program, RWN works with girls and young women in universities, rural communities, and Women Safe Spaces to strengthen leadership, advocacy, and life skills. A key innovation within this program is girls’ photography and digital storytelling for climate justice, where girls document climate change impacts, environmental challenges, and community resilience in their local contexts. These visual stories are used for community sensitization, national advocacy, and engagement with policymakers.
