The Company is committed to maintaining the highest standards of occupational health, safety, environmental stewardship and responsible mining practices. As part of its expansion and mechanisation programme, the Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced professionals for the position of Safety Mine Officer.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor the Company's occupational health and safety management systems.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits and risk assessments across mine operations.
- Ensure compliance with mining legislation, company safety policies and statutory requirements.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks and regular employee safety training.
- Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce safe working practices.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness drills and mine rescue activities.
- Maintain safety records, incident reports and statutory documentation.
- Work closely with Mining Engineers, Geologists, Supervisors and Contractors to promote a strong safety culture.
- Advise management on health, safety and environmental improvements.
- Prepare periodic HSE reports for management.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Mining Engineering, Environmental Health, or a related discipline from a recognised institution.
- Minimum of three (3) years' relevant experience in mining, construction or heavy industry. Underground mining experience is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, mine safety regulations and risk management principles.
- Certification in First Aid, Mine Rescue or NEBOSH/IOSH is an added advantage.
- Strong communication, analytical and leadership skills.
- High level of integrity and willingness to work in remote mining locations.
- Good proficiency in both Kinyarwanda and English. Proficiency in French is an added advantage.
