Job purpose:
The post holder will prepare, assist and or supervise visual communications outputs such as videos and photographs. He/she will lead scheduled photography and videography classes and will also oversee the Media Center and Media Center interns to help teach these skills. The Communications Coordinator will also work closely with the Village staff and the New York management team to amplify our social media engagement and strengthen our relations with and outreach to Rwandan media outlets.

Audio and Videography
• Lead classes on photography and videography for ASYV students. S/he should have advanced skills in each of these areas, as well as knowledge of software and editing so that s/he can teach these skills.
• Support the Student Life Manager in the day to day management of the media center including curriculum development and delivery, inventory and procurement.
• Regularly photograph or supervise student photography of Village events, student life, students and staff, and service learning and visitor groups for social media.
• Supervise student photography storage.
• Upload and archive photographic images on the ASYV Google Photos drive.
• Develop ideas for and implement creation of videos for social media and other campaigns in coordination with the Communications Fellow and New York staff.
• Document and/or supervise the documentation of relevant visits to the Village made by donors or other visitors.
• Work with students in the Media Club to improve their video, photography, and visual storytelling skills.
• Coordinate equitable and organized usage as well as maintenance of Media Center equipment and labs by ASYV students and staff
• Build in-Village and field trip partnerships with local and international institutions.
• Other duties assigned, as needed

Marketing and Communications and administration
• Support the Country Director to design reports templates and develop reports
• Record and archive the PMT and SLT meeting minutes and successful follow up on some of the meeting outcomes is done.
• Work with Village and New York staff to develop and grow ASYV media relations capacity, building media relationships/media database and assisting in drafting press releases and other outreach to secure media coverage to amplify ASYV’s work and impact.
• Work with Village and New York staff to develop an updated social media strategy and enhance social media engagement. Work with Village and New York staff to develop digital design assets.
• Facilitate the dissemination of student media work/art through approved channels and platforms (student club blogs/etc.)
• Support the global communications team in producing written content for dissemination via web, social media, and email marketing channels.
• Support the Country Director with the drafting and development of key communications and monthly updates, and media inquiries as needed.
• Train and support ASYV’s staff to be effective, consistent, and impactful in their external communications about ASYV work
• Work with the partnership team to ensure visitors pre to post visit positive experience.

Child Protection
• Ensuring full understanding of the provisions of the Child protection Policy.
• Conducting oneself in accordance with the rules of the Child Safeguarding Policy, in both personal and professional lives - which includes reporting suspicions of child abuse.
• Ensuring the way, he/she is carrying out his/her work is not putting children at risk (or further risk) - this means constantly scrutinizing the work through a child safe safeguarding, interests and protection lens.
• Being vigilant about observing possible child abuse/harm in their personal and professional lives.

Desirable profile of the expert
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, mass communication or related fields.
• At least 5 years of progressive experience in a similar position.
• Able to communicate fluently in English and Kinyarwanda.
• Capacity to produce high-quality briefs and reports in English and Kinyarwanda.
• Excellent presentation skills with a good level of proficiency in presentation tools such as Infographics design, PowerPoint, Microsoft Sway or another relevant tool.
• ASYV Fit.
