About the Role
The Facultative Business & Claims Manager is responsible for managing complex facultative reinsurance placements and overseeing claims to ensure optimal recoveries. The role combines technical reinsurance expertise with strong client and market engagement to protect client interests and drive commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Facultative Business Manager
This person will handle and manage large, complex, and non-standard risks outside standard reinsurance treaties requiring case- by case assessment and negotiation.
Risk Assessment and Structuring: Conducts in-depth analysis of unique or complex individual risks to determine appropriate coverage and structure a tailored reinsurance program.
Market Placement and Negotiation: Prepares detailed submission packages and negotiates terms, conditions, and pricing with various reinsurers to secure the most competitive and comprehensive coverage for the client.
Client and Reinsurer Relationship Management: Builds and maintain strong relationships with both ceding insurers (clients) and reinsurers globally, acting as the primary go-between during the placement process.
Documentation and Contract Certainty: Ensures all facultative contracts, slips, endorsements, and other documentation are accurately prepared, finalized, and signed in a timely manner, meeting compliance and regulatory requirements.
Technical Advice and Expertise: Provides technical advice and market intelligence to clients, helping them understand their exposures and make informed decisions on risk transfer.
Business Development: Identifies opportunities to source and grow new facultative business in line with the firm’s strategic goals and market appetite.
Claim Manager
This person will primarily be responsible for facilitating the entire claims process on behalf of the ceding insurer, ensuring claims are handled efficiently, accurately, and that recoveries from reinsurers are maximized.
Oversight of the Claims Process: Manages the end-to-end claims lifecycle, from initial notification to final settlement and closure.
Liaison and Communication: Serves as the key intermediary, facilitating communication and collaboration among the client, internal teams, reinsurers, loss adjusters, and legal counsel.
Technical Claims Expertise and Guidance: Provides professional advice to clients on complex claims issues, coverage interpretations, and legal/regulatory requirements.
Advocating for the Client: Ensures the claim is processed fairly and promptly by the reinsurer, challenging decisions when necessary and working to obtain the most favorable outcome for the client.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Monitors and analyzes claims data to identify trends, improve internal processes, ensure accurate reserving, and provide regular reports to senior management and clients.
Dispute Resolution: Handles complaints, complex claims, and potential disputes, working to resolve issues promptly and efficiently to maintain strong relationships.
Process Improvement: Identifies and implements strategies and innovative solutions to streamline claims workflows, enhance efficiency, and ensure adherence to internal policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Banking & Insurance or a related field (mandatory)
- CII Certification (required)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in an insurance firm or Insurance Brokerage firm
- Advanced knowledge of insurance contracts and regulatory compliance,
- Strong client relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities
