Background

GAMICO Ltd, a mining company currently operating the Bashyamba Mine located in Kigali Sector, Nyarugenge District; is seeking to recruit a qualified and motivated Medical Doctor to join its occupational health team at the GAMICO Clinic. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering clinical care to staff and strengthening occupational health surveillance across our mining operations.

Position Summary

Job Title: Medical Doctor

Department: SHEC

Reports To: SHEC Manager

Duty Station: GAMICO Mine Site,

Number of Positions: 1 (One)

Contract Type: Full-time, subject to probation

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient consultation, diagnosis, and treatment services to GAMICO staff and, where applicable, the surrounding mining community;
  • Conduct pre-employment, periodic, and exit medical examinations for mine workers, including screening for occupational health risks such as silicosis and other dust-related conditions;
  • Oversee occupational health surveillance, including referral and follow-up for chest X-ray/spirometry findings;
  • Maintain accurate, confidential medical records and occupational injury/illness registers;
  • Respond to workplace medical emergencies and coordinate referrals to external health facilities;
  • Advise management on occupational health matters, including PPE adequacy and recommendations from health surveillance data;
  • Supervise clinic support staff (nurses, clinical officers, lab technicians) as applicable;
  • Ensure compliance with Rwanda Ministry of Health regulations and occupational health and safety standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Medicine (MBBS/MD) from a recognized institution;
  • Valid registration/license with the Rwanda Medical and Dental Council;
  • At least five (5) years of clinical experience; experience in occupational health, mining, or industrial settings is an added advantage;
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to be trained in, occupational lung disease screening (e.g., silicosis, pneumoconiosis);
  • Strong communication, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently in a remote/mine-site setting;
  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda and English; French and/or Swahili is an advantage.
