Job Purpose:
Ubumwe Tea Company Limited (UTCL) is the company name of the Industrial Bloc (IB) supplying Nshili Kivu Tea Factory. Reporting to the Managing Director, the Plantation Manager will be responsible for ensuring the effective management and delivery of quality services across all assigned IB areas of UTCL to achieve optimal productivity and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the proper maintenance and general upkeep of all assigned tea fields to ensure optimal productivity.
- Monitor crop growth and development and prepare accurate projections of yields per acre/hectare.
- Collaborate closely with the Factory Manager to ensure the delivery of high-quality green leaf.
- Identify, register, and support the establishment of new tea growers within the designated area.
- Enforce compliance with all occupational safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Maintain high hygiene standards across all plantation operations.
- Conduct feasibility studies to assess the suitability of potential new planting areas.
- Coordinate and ensure timely implementation of fertilizer application programs.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and statistics to prevent data discrepancies or falsification.
- Facilitate the timely dissemination of relevant research findings and agronomic information to growers and field staff.
- Organize and supervise the efficient and timely collection of quality green leaf.
- Plan, implement, and oversee the transport logistics for green leaf collection and delivery to the factory.
- Coordinate grower meetings, field demonstrations, and educational tours as required.
- Participate in the preparation and monitoring of budgets to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Address and resolve growers' inquiries and concerns in line with company policies and procedures.
- Ensure continuous availability and efficiency of green leaf transport systems.
- Oversee the equitable and timely distribution of fertilizers and other essential inputs.
- Ensure the maintenance of accurate data and records on green leaf collection and related activities.
- Prepare and submit timely, accurate, and comprehensive reports to management and relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure the availability of all necessary materials, tools, and accessories required for smooth plantation operations.
Key Qualifications
- University degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agribusiness, or an equivalent Agricultural Science related field.
- At least five (5) years professional experience in managing field services or farm management, 3 of which should be as an Agronomist or equivalent role.
- Smallholder experience shall be an added advantage.
- Strong practical understanding of new planting, tea agronomy, and production logistics.
- Ability to work in rural settings and communicate effectively across cultural divides.
- Ability to develop, retain, and manage an effective team.
- Ability to multitask and work with minimal supervision.
- Must be computer literate.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with good proficiency in spoken and written Kinyarwanda and English.
