The Project
Within the Special Initiative "Decent Work for a Just Transition" of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented among others by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, sequa implements the project "Pilot SME Support Scheme targeting growth-orientated SMEs" in Rwanda. sequa aims to facilitate business growth and job creation of Rwandan small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by increasing their competitiveness and productivity so that their products and services will satisfy the demand on local and international markets. A specific focus will be provided on women-owned SMEs, job creation, and employability training for women. No sectoral focus is foreseen.
Benefiting companies receive flexible and demand-oriented funding (management consulting, technical training, financial competence/business plan development, qualification, applied research activities, etc.). The support scheme will contribute to SMEs' change management and business growth.
The SME Support Scheme supports five medium-sized enterprises, including Agasaro Organic Ltd., with growth and job creation potential.
The scope of this assignment is to strengthen Agasaro Organic’s market reach and positioning within the local market by assessing and improving its sales distribution network, strengthening domestic market penetration, and initiating export-readiness, supporting the development of professional branding and sustainable packaging, developing a robust marketing strategy, and building internal marketing and compliance capacity through staff coaching.
Your Tasks / Responsibilities
Your Qualifications / Skills
Education/training: A Master’s degree (preferred) or at minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Strategic Management, International Trade, or a related field. Additional training or certification in Export Marketing, Digital Marketing, and Brand Management is a strong asset.
Languages: Full proficiency in English and Kinyarwanda
Other Skills: Deep understanding of FMCG or agri-processing sales dynamics, especially within the Rwandan market; technical knowledge of branding, packaging design; strong command of strategic marketing planning, and go-to-market execution; demonstrated ability to design and implement business development strategies for SMEs, with an emphasis on market expansion and positioning; in-depth knowledge of consumer behavior, and marketing analytics tools;
Your Working Experience
General professional experience: Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in marketing, sales, and business development.
Specific professional experience: Demonstrated success in expanding nationwide distribution networks for consumer products or beverages; proven track record of formulating and implementing marketing and sales strategies for SMEs or consumer product companies; demonstrated experience in designing and executing business growth strategies, including market entry, segmentation, and product positioning; practical experience in export marketing, packaging for international buyers;
Regional experience: Experience working with or advising SMEs in emerging markets, preferably in Rwanda or East Africa
