Background:

Congrès du Travail et de la Fraternité des Travailleurs au Rwanda (COTRAF-RWANDA) is implementing  an ENABEL-funded 2 years Project: Dignified Trade Union for Sustainable Development (DTU4SD) project  for Workers’ labour rights (as stipulated in the Rwandan labour laws and international labour standards) especially in the informal economy are respected and scaled up, resulting from the strengthened capacities of Trade unions. The project aims to empowering and supporting decent work and social protection in informal economy in Rwanda, especially in the manufacturing, trade, mining and construction sectors. Particularly in Kigali City Districts and in Kivu Belt Districts.

The aims of the consultancy services:  

The Trade Union Mobilization through Music project aims to leverage the power of music to communicate key messages and mobilize stakeholders, particularly trade union members and the wider community. As part of this initiative, we are seeking the services of an individual consultant musician to compose songs with trade union key messages to be used in mobilization efforts. The consultant must have experience in trade unions and bring samples of their work during the interview. Skills in graphic arts are considered an advantage.

Key Conditions:

  • The individual consultant must have prior experience in composing songs, preferably with a focus on trade union themes and mobilization campaigns.
  • During the interview process, the consultant must bring two samples of their previous works of art for evaluation.
  • Skills in graphic arts will be considered an advantage but are not mandatory.

Scope of Work:  

The individual consultant musician will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Collaborating with project stakeholders to understand key trade union messages and mobilization objectives.
  • Composing original songs that effectively convey trade union messages and inspire action among target audiences.
  • Writing lyrics that resonate with trade union members and the wider community, addressing relevant issues and concerns.
  • Creating melodies and arrangements that are engaging, memorable, and culturally appropriate.
  • Recording demo versions of the songs for review and feedback from project stakeholders.
  • Revising and finalizing the songs based on feedback and input from project stakeholders.
  • Providing guidance and support during the rehearsal and performance of the songs at mobilization events and activities.

Deliverables:

  • Original songs composed with trade union key messages, including lyrics and melodies.
  • Demo versions of the songs recorded and submitted for review.
  • Final versions of the songs revised and finalized based on feedback from project stakeholders.
  • Documentation outlining the creative process, including inspirations, themes, and challenges encountered.

Optional:

Graphic art elements, such as album covers or promotional materials, if the consultant possesses skills in graphic arts.

Selection Criteria:

The consultant or the company will submit an expression of interest to COTRAF-RWANDA at (cotrafrwanda2003@gmail.com) and copy to ericnepib@gmail.com  18/03/2024 at 5PM. The expression of interest should   include the following:

  1. Demonstrated experience in composing songs, particularly with themes related to trade unions or social justice issues. /20 points
  2. Strong understanding of trade union principles, values, and objectives. /20points
  3. Portfolio of previous works demonstrating creativity, originality, and relevance to the project objectives. /20 points
  4. Technical expertise in software development, database management, and user interface design. /20 points
  5. Financial proposal. /20 points 

Optional:

Skills in graphic arts, which will be considered an advantage but are not mandatory.

Interview Process:

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews, during which they must present two samples of their previous works of art for evaluation.

The selection committee will assess candidates based on the selection criteria outlined above.
