About Akazi Kanoze Access (AKA):

Akazi Kanoze Access (AKA) is a registered national non-governmental organization (NGO) that empowers Rwandan youth by providing employability skills, access to capital, and tailored support to participate meaningfully in economic opportunities. AKA is currently implementing the Youth Entrepreneurship for the Future of Food & Agriculture (YEFFA) Project in Rwanda’s Eastern Province, in partnership with the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). AKA is hiring a Project Accountant to manage the accounting and financial operations of the YEFFA Project. The role includes responsibility for budget monitoring, financial reporting, and ensuring accuracy and compliance. The position is based in our Kigali office and reports to the Director of Finance and Administration.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage project accounting and financial systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Record all transactions, including payments, journal entries, electronic transfers, and receipts in QuickBooks.
  • Prepare payments and payroll with complete supporting documentation.
  • Maintain organized electronic and hard copy financial records, including vouchers, reports, budgets, agreements, and audit information.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and manage petty cash, cheque registers, and project assets.
  • Monitor budgets, track expenses, analyze advances, and prepare monthly fund balances.
  • Prepare quarterly financial reports and support audits.
  • Ensure compliance with donor regulations, project agreements, and tax obligations.
  • Participate in budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and salary allocation across projects.
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies and provide clarifications as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Job requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

CPA/CCA is an added advantage

Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of accounting/finance experience, preferably in NGO or donor-funded projects.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in accounting software (QuickBooks preferred) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and donor compliance requirements.

Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial records.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.

Other skills:

  • Strong English communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with donor-funded project accounting and reporting is a plus.
