The International Gorilla Conservation Programme (IGCP) is a coalition of three international conservation organizations: Conservation International (CI), Fauna & Flora, and WWF. IGCP’s mission is to Secure the Future for Mountain Gorillas (Gorillaberingei beringei). The programme operates in the three countries that share the habitat of the mountain gorilla - Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda and Uganda - and works in partnership with the Protected Area Authorities of the three countries (Institute Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature, ICCN, in DRC; Rwanda Development Board, RDB, in Rwanda; and Uganda Wildlife Authority, UWA, in Uganda). IGCP also maintains a large number of partnerships with civil society organizations, community-based organizations, research institutions, private sector and local government.

SUMMARY OF ROLE

IGCP seeks to recruit an intern to assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of IGCP’s work to strengthen community conservation activities around Volcanoes National Park (VNP) through supporting various community engagement and livelihood improvement initiatives. The intern will benefit from hands-on experience working with various stakeholders involved in gorilla conservation, mostly local communities grouped in Community Based Organizations (CBOs).

Responsibilities or duties

  • participate in project proposal development and activities planning with IGCP team;
  • regular field visits to follow up and monitor the implementation of community projects funded by IGCP and provide technical support with recommendations accordingly;
  • assist in gathering data for IGCP Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework;
  • translate reports and other documents from CBOs into English;
  • assist Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in the development of socioeconomic projects and submission to potential donors;
  • perform any other duties as required.

Qualifications or requirements 

  • Must be a Rwandan citizen.
  • University graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Rural Development, Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Agronomy, Animal Production, Veterinary or related field.
  • Early-career professional who graduated within the past two (2) years.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake regular field visits to rural areas and farming projects
