Background
The University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB) is a fully accredited community-based university, established in 2006. Located in Byumba Sector, Gicumbi District, Northern Province, Rwanda, UTAB is dedicated to academic excellence, research, and community outreach, aiming to enhance the quality of education and foster social transformation. UTAB collaborates with national, regional, and international partners to equip its graduates with knowledge and practical skills. The university's vision is to become a leading institution of academic and professional excellence for sustainable socio-economic development. Its mission includes providing quality higher education, community-oriented research, shaping a skilled workforce in technology and arts, and promoting a culture of excellence and innovation. UTAB operates four accredited faculties: Social Sciences, Management and Development Studies (SSMDS); Education; Agriculture, Environmental Management and Renewable Energy (AEMRE); and Sciences and Technology. The university has two campuses, one in Byumba (Northern Province) and another in Kiramuruzi (Eastern Province). In this context, UTAB seeks to recruit 10 qualified, experienced, and competent candidates for various positions.
Responsibilities
The Director of Academic Affairs at UTAB- Kiramuruzi Campus will be responsible for:
- Coordinating academic matters of the campus.
- Planning and supervising all activities related to quality assurance, admission, and registration.
- Improving the student database in UMIS, including adjustment of student data, continuous assessment recording, academic documents, and archives management.
- Overseeing and preparing student graduation ceremonies.
- Ensuring responsibility for all administrative business related to student evaluation and information.
- Ensuring the implementation of Academic Regulations and advising the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics and Research and all academic committees on its interpretation.
- Working closely with the Campus Manager to elaborate the Academic Calendar.
- Ensuring that clerical services are provided to all academic committees.
ICT-Related Responsibilities (for the Director of Academic Affairs role):
- Developing and deploying simple ICT systems and applications to support daily institutional operations and improve efficiency.
- Planning and coordinating all ICT-related needs of the institution, including infrastructure, software, and user support services.
- Designing and implementing strategies for integrating ICT into teaching and learning processes across all academic programs.
- Developing and overseeing the implementation of an e-learning strategy to support blended and fully online learning modes.
- Promoting and implementing a paperless environment through digital solutions for documentation, communication, and record management.
- Providing technical guidance and support for ICT adoption across departments and capacity building for staff and students.
- Ensuring ICT systems are secure, reliable, and regularly updated to meet institutional needs.
- Collaborating with academic and administrative units to identify ICT solutions that enhance institutional performance.
- Exercising any other duties that could be assigned by superiors.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Candidates should demonstrate integrity, trustworthiness, strong leadership, effective communication, time management, multitasking abilities, and the capacity to work under minimal supervision while ensuring quality and result-oriented service delivery.
- Internationally recognized IT certifications such as CISCO will be an added advantage.
- Certified copy of degree(s) transcript(s) with at least 70% cumulative average marks in the completed cycle.
- Copy of Equivalences once studied abroad.
- Certificate of work for those who have worked/certificate of employment for those on the job.
