Description:

As a Fingerlings Truck Driver, your primary responsibility is to safely transport fingerlings between locations while ensuring timely delivery and maintaining optimal conditions to minimize mortality. You are responsible for careful handling, routine vehicle checks, accurate record-keeping, and compliance with safety, biosecurity, and transport regulations, while supporting operations and representing the company professionally.

Primary Responsibilities:

Transportation and Delivery

  • Safely operate company truck for daily transport of fingerlings between Kigembe hatchery, Kagano farms, and other locations.
  • Ensure timely delivery of fingerlings following designated routes and schedules.
  • Maintain an optimal environment (water quality, temperature, oxygen levels) during transportation.
  • Handle loading and offloading of fingerling containers with care to minimize mortality.

Vehicle Care and Maintenance

  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections (fuel, oil, lights, brakes, tires, coolant).
  • Report mechanical issues immediately to Fleet Coordinator.
  • Keep the truck clean, well-secured, and in compliance with safety standards.
  • Ensure regular service based on mileage and service schedule.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Accurately complete trip sheets, delivery notes, and mortality records.
  • Maintain updated logbooks according to transport regulations.
  • Submit daily movement reports to the Fleet Coordinator.

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all traffic rules and internal fleet Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain safe driving practices at all times.
  • Ensure all required licenses, insurance, and permits are valid and present in the vehicle.
  • Adhere to biosecurity protocols to prevent contamination between sites.

Operational Support

  • Assist hatchery and farm teams during loading/unloading and emergency movements.
  • Provide feedback on route conditions, delays, and operational risks.
  • Represent the company professionally in all interactions with farmers and partners.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Rwandan driving license Category B, C and E.
  • Possession of Secondary Certificate(A2) Certificate in any Field
  • Minimum of 3years of experience in professional driving, preferably in logistics or agriculture.
  • Good Knowledge of Driving Technique.
  • Ability to Speak and write English and Kinyarwanda
  • Basic understanding of live animal handling or willingness to be trained.
  • Ability to read and complete standard documents (delivery notes, logs).

Other Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong awareness of road safety and responsible driving habits.
  • Good physical condition; able to lift and move fingerling containers.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge is an added advantage.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • High level of integrity, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work long hours or weekends when necessary.
  • Punctual, self-motivated, and able to follow instructions precisely.
