HEAD OF DEPARTMENT – LEISURE, TOURISM & HOTEL MANAGEMENT
1 Position | Kigali Campus
Job Summary
The Head of Department will provide overall academic, administrative, and operational leadership to the Leisure, Tourism and Hotel Management Department. The role involves coordinating teaching and learning, managing academic staff, maintaining academic standards, supporting students, and strengthening industry engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise teaching and learning activities within the department.
- Allocate courses, teaching duties, and timetables to lecturers/trainers.
- Monitor lecturers' attendance, punctuality, lesson delivery, and overall performance.
- Ensure lecturers prepare appropriate schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching materials, and assessment tools.
- Ensure effective implementation of approved curricula.
- Supervise assessment and examination processes.
- Ensure students' academic records are properly maintained and submitted to relevant offices.
- Monitor recording and submission of marks and assessment results.
- Verify examination and continuous-assessment marks before submission.
- Coordinate the day-to-day administration of the department.
- Prepare departmental reports and represent the department in institutional meetings.
- Coordinate departmental resources and ensure their effective use.
- Ensure lecturers comply with University policies, regulations, and professional standards.
- Monitor quality of academic and practical training.
- Participate in curriculum review and continuous-improvement activities.
- Coordinate practical training, field visits, internships, and industry-related learning.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with tourism, hospitality, leisure, and related industry partners.
- Support career guidance and professional-development activities for students.
- Promote a positive, professional, collaborative, and ethical working environment.
- Serve as a link between departmental staff, students, and University management.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- PhD in Leisure, Tourism, Hospitality, Hotel Management, or a related field.
- At least 5 years' relevant experience in the field, as indicated in the vacancy announcement.
- Strong academic leadership and departmental-management skills.
- Good knowledge of tourism, hospitality, leisure, and practical industry training.
- Strong communication, coordination, and leadership abilities.
