Background

The Vanguard Economics Foundation works to empower youth and advance inclusive development in Rwanda through research, capacity building, mentorship, and entrepreneurship programming. The Foundation places strong emphasis on youth leadership, gender equality, and innovative approaches to social and economic development. The Foundation is seeking a motivated and dynamic Communications & Program Support Intern to support its communications, events, and program delivery activities during an exciting period of growth.

Position Summary

The Intern will support the Foundation’s communications, social media presence, and program logistics, with a particular focus on storytelling, digital content creation, and event coordination. The role is well suited to a proactive, creative, and highly organized individual who is eager to gain hands-on experience in the development and non-profit sector.

Key Responsibilities

1. Communications & Digital Content

  • Support the creation and management of engaging content for the Foundation’s social media platforms.
  • Design and produce short video reels and visual content that clearly and creatively communicate the Foundation’s areas of focus, programs, and impact.
  • Draft social media posts, blogs, website content, and other communication materials that tell compelling and accessible stories.
  • Support documentation of events and programs through photos, videos, and short written summaries.
  • Contribute to high-quality written content in both English and Kinyarwanda, including social media captions, blogs, and outreach materials.

2. Event Management & Logistics Support

  • Support the planning and delivery of an event around International Women’s Day in Kigali, Rwanda.
  • Assist with participant management, guest invitations, and follow-up communications.
  • Liaise with venues, caterers, service providers, and participants to support smooth event delivery.
  • Provide on-the-day event coordination support, including registration and logistics management.

3. Program Support – Youth Social Entrepreneurship Program (YSEP)

  • Support logistics planning and coordination for the Youth Social Entrepreneurship Program.
  • Assist with communications and coordination related to program activities.
  • Support the planning and delivery of the YSEP Graduation event scheduled for February 2026.

Requirements

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong interest in communications, social media, storytelling, and development work.
  • Demonstrated experience or skills in social media management, video design, or digital content creation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Kinyarwanda.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Energetic, positive, and proactive attitude; a self-starter who is willing to take initiative.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small team.
  • Experience supporting events, workshops, or conferences.
  • Basic skills in graphic design or video editing tools (e.g. Canva, CapCut, Adobe tools, or similar).
  • Interest in youth empowerment, gender equality, entrepreneurship, or social impact.
