IMBARAGA Farmers’ Organization is a Rwandan non-governmental organization founded in 1992 by Rwandan farmers. The organization focuses on supporting the transition from traditional to professional farming, making agriculture a profitable socio-economic activity that contributes to improving farmers’ livelihoods through decent employment opportunities.

Thus, we are implementing youth-focused agricultural development activities aimed at enhancing agribusiness skills, increasing productivity, and creating employment opportunities within priority value chains. As part of this initiative, IMBARAGA seeks to recruit Youth Agri-preneurship Officers (YAO) to strengthen horticulture and poultry value-chain interventions in Rusizi, Nyamasheke, Rutsiro, Muhanga and Rubavu Districts.

The Youth Entrepreneurship in Agriculture – Rwanda (YEA-R) program aims to increase resilience and quality of life for young women, men and persons with disabilities through dignified, fulfilling, and equitable work opportunities

2. Purpose of the position

The Youth Agri-preneurship Officer (YAO) is responsible for providing technical assistance, field coordination, extension support, and enterprise development services within assigned value chains. The YAO ensures the effective implementation of project activities, strengthens youth capacities, and facilitates market-driven agribusiness development.

3. Position profiles and qualifications

3.1 Horticulture Youth Agri-preneurship Officer

a) Required academic qualifications and professional experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Crop Production/Crop Science, Agribusiness, or Agronomy.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in horticulture production and extension services.
  • Experience working with youth groups, or community projects is an added advantage.

b) Competencies and skills

  • Strong technical expertise in horticulture.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills with youth and local communities.
  • Ability to analyze agribusiness performance and propose improvements.
  • Strong organizational, reporting, and digital data-management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and deliver results on time.
  • High ethical standards and commitment to community development.

C) Key responsibilities

  • Provide tailored technical guidance to youth agripreneurs in horticulture production.
  • Conduct regular field visits, demonstrations, and farmer field school activities.
  • Promote climate-smart, cost-effective, and market-oriented agricultural practices.
  • Support the adoption of improved technologies and Good Agricultural Practices.
  • Assist youth groups in designing, launching, and managing profitable agribusiness ventures.
  • Provide training on agribusiness planning, budgeting, financial literacy, marketing, and record-keeping.
  • Facilitate access to inputs, services, and markets through strengthened local value chains.
  • Strengthen youth groups in governance, resource management, and sustainability.
  • Identify market opportunities and support youth in meeting market standards.
  • Build partnerships with buyers, processors, aggregators, suppliers, and financial service providers.
  • Facilitate contract farming arrangements and value addition initiatives where possible.

3.2 Poultry Youth Agri-preneurship Officer

a) Required academic qualifications and professional experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Health, or Veterinary Technologies.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in poultry production, veterinary extension, animal health services.
  • Experience in community poultry programs or poultry enterprise development is an advantage.

b) Competencies and skills

  • Strong technical expertise in poultry.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills with youth and local communities.
  • Ability to analyze agribusiness performance and propose improvements.
  • Strong organizational, reporting, and digital data-management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and deliver results on time.
  • High ethical standards and commitment to community development.

  • Conduct routine farm visits, on-site coaching, vaccination sessions, and farmer field school activities focused on poultry husbandry.
  • Promote climate-smart and biosecure poultry production practices that enhance productivity while reducing costs and disease risks.
  • Support the adoption and proper use of improved poultry technologies.
  • Assist youth groups in developing, launching, and managing profitable poultry enterprises such as egg production, broiler rearing, ...
  • Provide capacity-building on poultry enterprise planning, budgeting, cost-benefit analysis, financial literacy, marketing strategies, and accurate record-keeping.
  • Facilitate youth access to quality inputs, services, and reliable output markets through strengthened poultry value chains.
  • Strengthen youth poultry groups in governance, marketing, financial management, and long-term sustainability.
  • Identify emerging market opportunities for eggs, broilers, and poultry by-products and support youth in meeting quality and safety standards.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with input suppliers, hatcheries, feed manufacturers, traders, processors and financial institutions.
  • Facilitate contract farming arrangements and aggregation systems.

4. Duration and duty stations

  • Full-time position based in one of the following districts: Rusizi, Nyamasheke, Rutsiro, Rubavu and Muhanga, with extensive field travel.
  • Contract duration: 12 months, renewable based on performance.
  • Provide tailored technical guidance to youth agripreneurs in horticulture production.
  • Conduct regular field visits, demonstrations, and farmer field school activities.
  • Promote climate-smart, cost-effective, and market-oriented agricultural practices.
  • Support the adoption of improved technologies and Good Agricultural Practices.
