Job responsibilities

• Operate industrial washing machines, dryers, extractors, ironing machines, and other laundry equipment.
• Sort hospital linen according to type, colour, level of contamination, and washing requirements.
• Load and unload laundry machines safely and according to equipment capacity.
• Select appropriate washing programs, temperatures, chemicals, and cycle times.
• Ensure contaminated and heavily soiled linen is handled according to hospital infection-control procedures.
• Monitor machines during operation and identify unusual noise, vibration, leakage, overheating, or other faults.
• Report equipment breakdowns and technical problems to the maintenance or engineering team.
• Perform routine cleaning and basic operator-level maintenance of laundry machines.
• Ensure correct use and storage of laundry detergents, disinfectants, and other chemicals.
• Transfer clean linen safely to drying, ironing, folding, and storage areas.
• Operate industrial pressing, ironing, folding, and finishing equipment where required.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laundry area.
• Follow hospital infection-prevention, occupational-health, and safety procedures.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling contaminated linen or chemicals.
• Avoid mixing clean and dirty linen and maintain proper separation between clean and contaminated areas.
• Record laundry quantities, machine cycles, chemical usage, and equipment problems where required.
• Assist in identifying damaged linen and separating items requiring repair or disposal.
• Ensure clean linen is properly folded, packaged, stored, and delivered to hospital departments.
• Report shortages of detergents, linen, PPE, and other laundry supplies.
• Work closely with nursing, housekeeping, infection-control, and maintenance teams.
