BACKGROUND

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is a membership Union composed of both government and civil society organizations. It harnesses the experience, resources, and reach of its more than 1,400 Member organizations and the input of more than 18,000 experts. IUCN is the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it.

Effective communication is critical to IUCN’s mission of influencing, encouraging, and assisting societies in conserving nature's integrity and diversity. Donor engagement, visibility, and the delivery of high-quality publications and multimedia products are key to the success of our conservation efforts.

The IUCN Rwanda Country Office seeks an M&E Intern to support the MEL department in areas of data collection, entry, cleaning and production of dashboards. This will support the development of a national MEL system by integrating project data from implementing partners and beneficiary organizations, strengthening accountability through feedback, reviews, and data-driven insights.

This position appeals to young graduates with a background in data science from statistics/conservation agriculture and/or environmental studies who seek to enhance their skills through practical and real-world experience contributing to both the organization's needs and their own professional development.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the development and refinement of data collection templates and tools to ensure standardization across project components: data collection templates design, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
  • Contribute to data cleaning and entry processes, ensuring that all data is complete and meets quality standards for analysis and reporting.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of power BI dashboards that provide real-time insights into project indicators, performance metrics, and overall progress toward project objectives.
  • From available data, produce engaging and informative data visualizations, including charts, graphs, and infographics, to effectively communicate project findings and trends to various stakeholders.
  • Support the development of survey tools and protocols, fieldwork coordination when required, and contribute to the analysis and interpretation of survey results.
  • Continuously review the functionality and usability of existing project dashboards. Identify gaps, inefficiencies, or opportunities for enhancement, and propose practical solutions to improve user experience, data accessibility, and analytical capabilities.
  • Maintain consistent and proactive communication with Implementing Partners to share updates on data-related activities, clarify data needs, and address any concerns or challenges.
  • Continuously issue feedback on improving data collection tools’ utilization by field teams to reflect the situation on the ground
  • Any other assigned tasks assigned to support program implementation

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education

Bachelor’s degree in data science, statistics, monitoring and evaluation, Conservation Agriculture, or Environmental studies, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Certificate of practical training and hands on skills in digital data collection & analysis and visualization tools

Work Experience

Strong Power BI skills to align and link Excel files to create dashboards that can be used for tracking and reporting

Experience in using Kobo Toolbox, ODK Collect or any other survey tools

Language Proficiency

Good reporting and communication skills in Kinyarwanda and English
