Position : Pharmacovigilance Expert (Consultancy)

Background
Akros Research is supporting a 3-year program, funded by the Mastercard Foundation and in partnership with the Africa CDC, to increase Covid19 vaccine uptake in Africa. This initiative, called Saving Lives and Livelihoods, includes multiple components and partners working to procure, distribute, and promote vaccine uptake in a safe manner. As a part of this consortium Akros Research will support Africa Union member states in the Eastern and Southern African regions to strengthen COVID-19 vaccine safety surveillance systems.
The Pharmacovigilance Expert will support Akros Research to build capacity of the Kenya National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVSAC) in causality assessment and effective reporting of adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) specific to Covid-19 at national, district and sub-district levels, as well as liaising with stakeholders participating in the COVID-19 response, and Akros Research senior management to facilitate the realization of the training objectives.

Specific Responsibilities

• Develop collaborative working relationships with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), the Extended Programme for Immunization (EPI) and key stakeholders to ensure that the refresher training for the National Vaccine Advisory Committee is well planned and executed.
• Conduct the training needs assessment.
• Consult and collaborate with the PPB and EPI experts to develop and adapt training materials for Covid-19 vaccine specific AEFIs.
• Lead the training for three days of the NVSAC in causality assessment approaches and effective reporting of AEFIs specific to COVID-19.
• Conduct capacity building in the systematic review and evaluation of AEFI data to determine the likelihood of a causal association between the event(s) and the vaccine received.
• Conduct training evaluation to ensure training is relevant and meets the expectations of the NVSAC.
• Provide the detailed training report.
• Travel for a six-day trip to Kenya if expert is non- Kenyan

Location and Term
• The Consultant will be sought from the pharmacovigilance networks in Africa. The position involves travel to Kenya, Nairobi.

Reporting

• This position will report directly to the Akros Country Manager.
Required profile for job ad : Pharmacovigilance Expert (Consultancy)

Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree (required) in Pharmacy, Epidemiology, Public Health. PhD (highly preferred) in relevant field.
• Strong experience in vaccine safety surveillance and AEFI case investigations, including development of AEFI investigation dossiers.
• Experience in Covid-19 vaccines standard operating procedures, vaccine safety management, clinical trials and medical supervision.
• Proven experience in designing and adapting training packages.
• Excellent technical writing, quantitative and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent computer skills with fluency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
• Candidate should work well against complex and challenging delivery schedules.
• Candidate should be culturally adaptable and sensitive.
