Background of U'Mwiza Rwanda

U'Mwiza Rwanda is a local non-governmental organization (NGO) registered under the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) with registration number RG.000297/RGB/NGO/LP/11/2025. The organization partners with UNBOUND, an international sponsorship and development organization, to implement community-based programs that promote dignity, self-reliance, and improved livelihoods among children, youth, and families living in poverty. Through servant leadership and a strong commitment to accountability, U'Mwiza Rwanda works to empower families and communities across Rwanda to achieve sustainable development and lasting change.

Position Summary

The Project Coordinator is responsible for leading, coordinating, and supporting the effective implementation of the UNBOUND Program under U'Mwiza Rwanda. The role applies servant-leadership principles to guide project staff, ensure accountability, and strengthen relationships with sponsored families, sponsors, and partners. The Coordinator provides overall direction in planning, organizing, monitoring, and reporting on project activities in alignment with U' Mwiza Rwanda's mission, policies, and core values.

Qualifications

  • Education: MA or MBA degree in Project Management and coordination, Development Studies, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in project coordination, community development, or NGO leadership as a director.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Excellent cross – cultural communication and report-writing abilities. Sound knowledge of budgeting, planning, and monitoring tools. Proficiency in MS Office and project management software.
  • Language: Fluency in English and in Kinyarwanda is required; French (intermediate or advanced) is an added and appreciated advantage.
  • Driving License: Must have a valid Rwandan or International driving license given the constant demand of the field work and field visits.
  • Provide humble and empowering leadership, coaching, and guidance to project staff and sponsored members.
  • Ensure adherence to UNBOUND policies and that the project delivers maximum benefits to the sponsored members served.
  • Promote respect for diversity in culture, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, class, gender, age, and disability.
  • Foster a culture of respect, service, teamwork, and accountability within the project.
  • Maintain excellent collaboration between U'Mwiza Rwanda and UNBOUND Kansas.
  • Ensure open, transparent, and effective communication between the project and UNBOUND Kansas.
  • Establish multiple and functional points of contact between project staff and UNBOUND Kansas counterparts.
  • Align with the spirit, values and mission of both U'Mwiza Rwanda and UNBOUND of working with vulnerable families
  • Ensure effective monitoring of sponsored persons' eligibility and participation in the program.
  • Plan, develop, and implement initiatives that promote the self-sustainability of sponsored families and their communities.
  • Develop a project structure and team that effectively implements the nine UNBOUND program characteristics.
  • Define, measure, and document program outcomes and use results for continuous improvement.
  • Lead the project's strategic and annual planning processes.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain competent human resources (staff and volunteers).
  • Build an effective and collaborative leadership team.
  • Develop and implement human resource policies that are consistent with local laws and UNBOUND values.
  • Conduct regular performance assessments for all staff and zonal/subproject teams, providing feedback and guidance for improvement.
  • Ensure the project's full compliance with local legal requirements and maintain its registration in good standing.
  • Build and implement effective management systems, structures, and policies aligned with UNBOUND's vision and values.
  • Develop a decentralized management structure that ensures adequate support and supervision to all team members.
  • Ensure alignment of project and zonal activities with UNBOUND core values and frameworks.
  • Develop and document local operational policies and procedures consistent with UNBOUND standards.
  • Ensure effective and responsible financial management of sponsorship funds.
  • Plan, guide, and monitor the efficient use of financial resources.
  • Implement accounting systems consistent with UNBOUND Financial Policies to ensure strong financial controls.
  • Ensure project and zonal office compliance with financial guidelines.
  • Guarantee timely, transparent, and accurate financial reporting to both UNBOUND Kansas and relevant local authorities.
  • Provide oversight of financial matters and initiate corrective actions when needed, in consultation with UNBOUND Kansas.
  • Nurture caring and respectful relationships between sponsored members and their sponsors.
  • Ensure that correspondence reflects each sponsored member's unique story, talents, and aspirations.
  • Promote meaningful cultural exchange, understanding, and compassion between sponsors and sponsored families.
  • Ensure all staff maintain respectful and professional relationships with sponsored members, families, and partners.
  • Clearly communicate and promote understanding of UNBOUND's mission, uniqueness, and identity among project staff, families, and stakeholders.
  • Respond promptly and positively to requests and concerns from UNBOUND Kansas.
