About the Apprenticeship
Structured 6-month apprenticeship to develop two graduates into all-in-one maintenance technicians covering plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work on WAR's INUMA™ minigrid fleet. You train alongside our existing Regional Technicians (WAR currently operates a team of eight across the country) toward the same Officer-level competencies they deliver every day.
Career path: During the apprenticeship you sit in the Maintenance department under the Maintenance Manager. On successful completion you transfer to the Operations department and report to a Regional Sales Manager — with the core mandate of daily minigrid functionality follow-up and driving downtime toward zero across your patch.
Who We're Looking For
Education: TVET diploma or certificate in Plumbing, Water Engineering, Building & Construction, Electrical Installation, or Mechanical Maintenance (RTB/WDA-recognised).
Experience: Recent graduate (0–1 year) or about-to-graduate within 3 months.
Trade Foundation: Practical exposure to at least one of plumbing, electrical, or mechanical maintenance. Willingness to learn the other two disciplines.
Field Ready: 60%+ of your time will be outside Kigali.
Key Result Areas (mirrored from our current Regional Technician Officers)
- Daily minigrid functionality tracking — Uptime dashboards, operator check-ins, early failure detection, downtime toward zero.
- Plumbing maintenance & repair — PVC/HDPE pipework, taps, valves, meter connections, leak diagnostics.
- Electrical maintenance & repair — Solar arrays, control panels, pump wiring, low-voltage circuits, safe isolation.
- Mechanical maintenance & repair — Pumps, motors, valves, seals, rotating equipment.
- Field diagnostics — Cross-discipline fault-finding on live minigrids.
- Preventive maintenance — WAR PM schedule on distribution networks, filter housings, pump-tank sub-systems.
- Customer-facing conduct — You are the face of WAR when a tap fails.
- Record-keeping & reporting — Job cards, spare-parts logs, photo evidence, daily uptime feed.
Apprenticeship Terms (fixed — non-negotiable)
- Duration: 6 months from start date
- Monthly Stipend: RWF 150,000 net take-home / month
- Other Benefits During Apprenticeship: None
- Reports to (apprenticeship): Maintenance Manager (Maintenance department)
- Reports to (on promotion): Regional Sales Manager (Operations department)
- At Successful Completion: Promotion to Junior Regional Technician Officer (full package) — only for apprentices who consistently exceed expectations
- If Performance Bar Not Met: Apprentice not retained at end of 6 months
