The AGRIBUSINESS FOCUSED PARTNERSHIP ORGANIZATION-AGRIFOP is a non-government organization established in Rwanda in 2012 to provide support to rural smallholder agricultural development and to serve for public interest. AGRIFOP is registered under law N°04/2012 of 17/02/2012 of the laws of Rwanda governing NGOs holding REG. No 014/NGO/2015. AGRIFOP has been supporting agriculture inputs market development programs in the country through agro-dealers, farmers, farmer produce buyers, processors and rural traders.  Our team members have diverse experience in consultancy, research, capacity building and development. We broadly focus our expertise in: Skills development, professional development, scientific and technical services, and agricultural technical services.

AGRIFOP’s vision is to create a food secure and prosperous environment in Rwanda through a sustainable agricultural approach to growth based on agro-dealers and smallholder farmers capacity building and coaching.

AGRIFOP’s mission is to increase agricultural productivity in a sustainable manner through the development and transfer of effective and environmentally friendly business approaches to secure agricultural marketing expertise.

AGRIFOP’ technical expertise includes:

  • Collaborating with agro-dealers to improve the effectiveness and impact of program interventions; and to bring innovative ideas and generate grassroots support for donors involvement;
  • Sharing information with civil society organizations to achieve public accountability and transparency; Giving voice to key stakeholders and ensuring that their perspectives inform policy, advocacy and, ultimately impact;
  • To contribute to improvement of public private partnership and fostering learning about food security based on development challenges;
  • Promoting ownership of technologies and policy development processes.
  • Strengthening donor’s programs through greater local and regional knowledge.
  • Developing the capacity of agro-dealers and farmer’s organizations on undertaking decision-making.

The objectives of the Organization are:

  1. To promote agricultural and livestock production aiming at the development of farmers;
  2. To develop agricultural inputs and Agribusiness markets ;
  3. To promote research and development of new agricultural and livestock technologies,
  4. To build capacity of stakeholders and promote rational environment management;
  5. To facilitate banks involvement in agricultural and livestock financing activities.

AGRIFOP has been awarded a grant by European Union to boost food safety: “HINGANA UBUZIRANENGE: Boosting food safety chain in Rwanda project.”  With general objective “To consolidate food security in Rwanda through strengthening of food safety chain with enhanced use of bio safe agricultural inputs that limits environmental harm and positively impact consumer’s health”.

Specific objectives (SO):

SO1: To enhance food safety skills of agro-dealers, agri-inputs companies, and farmers.

SO2: To contribute to a relevant food safety regulatory framework and enhance its effective implementation

In the sake of reaching the project’s objectives, the project seeks to complete the baseline of the agro-dealers agri-inputs companies, and farmers in the project areas of focus which are Bugesera, Rwamagana, Gicumbi, Rulindo, Kamonyi, Musanze, Nyabihu and Rubavu. The project seek a consultant to conduct a quick assessment on agro-dealership status and farmers in the targeted areas

Scope of work:

The consultant is required to:

  • Development questionnaires and collection of data related to:
  • The current active agro-dealers and farmers in the project area involved in horticulture production;
  • The suppliers of agrochemicals to retail agro-dealers and improved horticultural seeds/Vegetables and grafted fruit trees,
  • The main constraints faced by the horticulture domain
  • The buyers of their produce;
  • The status of agrochemical use and safe handling;
  • Postharvest technologies available and products handling;
  • Information on knowledge and use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in agrochemical application;
  • Information on bio agro-inputs use in the area;
  • Information on food safety practices used from the farm to fork
  • The training application form will be filled through interview with the agro-dealers and we expect to collect all necessary information to design suitable trainings that respond the agro-dealers expectations.
  • The consultant shall analyse data and produce the assessment report that will help the project to understand the current agro-dealership and farmers in agriculture value chain toward food safety in the targeted project area.

Obligations of consultant:

The consultant shall provide

The internees shall as well entry data using an excel format and submit the soft and hard copies to AGRIFOP within two days.

Obligation Of Agrifop

  • AGRIFOP shall avail the information necessary to the consultant and facilitate them the access to information not available at the agro-dealer. 
  • AGRIFOP shall pay the agreed amount of the contract to the consultant.

Qualifications required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or relevant field; MBA is preferred
  2. Minimum 3 years of work experience in a similar role
  3. Strong proficiency in MS Office
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  5. Great presentation and public speaking skills
  6. Analytical, with strong attention to detail
  7. Highly organized
  8. Industry expertise in assigned sector

The consultant shall report to the AGRIFOP CEO who is the direct supervisor for this survey.
