The YouthConnekt Africa Hub is a newly established institution set up to coordinate the implementation of the YouthConnekt Africa programme. The Communications and Events will play an instrumental role of supporting the Hub to strategically position itself as a leader and key player on Youth Development within the regional ecosystem, national governments and regional bodies.

Functions Of The Youthconnekt Africa Hub Communications And Events Manager:

• Develop a strong communications strategy and annual plan for the YouthConnekt Africa initiative and Hub.
• Implement the YouthConnekt Africa Communications and Media strategy related to partnerships building and fundraising activities.
• Provide support to continental communication about YouthConnekt initiatives working with various stakeholders at the national, regional, and continental level.
• Build and maintain relationships with media, journalists, bloggers, influences, and young people to promote YCA objectives and increase its visibility.
• Ensure communication contents align with the YCA brand and also ensure that member countries' YCA initiatives comply with the YCA guidelines.
• Maintain regular interaction with YouthConnekt Africa Stakeholders through newsletters, media coverage, social media posts, and digital events.
• Lead the preparation of the YouthConnekt Africa quarterly newsletter
• Make regular updates to the YouthConnekt Africa social media platforms with relevant communications and marketing materials.
• Develop success stories of YouthConnekt national chapters to be disseminated
• Providing essential support to daily workflow, drafting correspondence, preparing meetings and missions, and performing other ad hoc tasks as needed.
• Review and draft press statements, prepare social media outputs, and other communication material to be used in external stakeholder meetings.
• Raising awareness of the YouthConnekt initiative for fundraising purposes.
• Develop standard procedures and tools related to YouthConnekt Africa events.
• Serve as project manager and coordinator of YouthConnekt Africa events.
• ▪ Develop an annual and quarterly plan of physical and digital events engaging the large YouthConnekt Africa network.

Senior Communication Manager

Irembo is a technology company in the gov-tech and fin-tech space that designs and develops digital products focused on users in Africa, starting with Rwanda. Our pioneer product, IremboGov, enables Rwandans and visitors to access over 100 public services online.

Context and role overview:
The Senior Communications Manager will lead, coordinate and manage our efforts to raise our brand within the tech sector. This will be essential in supporting our efforts to raise funds, scale, and attract new partners.

Main responsibilities:
Communications Strategy:
• Developing, managing, and implementing our communications strategy to raise the profile and the visibility of Irembo, in line with our external relations strategy
• Ensuring consistency of strategy, messaging, and brand identity compliance across all the organization

Online and Offline Communications:
• Managing Irembo’s overall online and offline editorial, branding, and media content (from planning to editing and curating) across all our communications channels (website, social media, etc.)
• Planning, coordinating, and managing Irembo’s corporate online and offline communications calendar in close collaboration with other teams (including Partnerships, CX, and Executive teams)
• Mapping, identifying, and cultivating high-quality relationships with relevant partners
• Driving the writing (and constant review) of Irembo’s narrative – as well as proactive and reactive messages, such as press briefs, articles, and speeches when needed
• Overseeing and signing off on all external communications outputs produced by the teams within Irembo (including executive summaries of publications, reports, news, articles, etc.)
• Planning, managing, and overseeing the production of engaging written, visual and multimedia packages (videos, animations etc.)

Internal Communications:
• Identifying and/or creating and coordinating opportunities for cross-collaboration with the other teams – especially the team in charge of advocacy and programs, bridging information flows between the External Relations team and the other teams
• Building and managing integrated communication guidelines, projects, and events to engage internal and external stakeholders and build stronger awareness of Irembo’s work
• Identifying, preparing, and supporting Irembo’s leadership in their role as spokespersons

People Management:
• Recruiting, selecting, and appointing staff within the communications team
• Supporting the staff within the communications team to ensure they do their roles to the best of their abilities and in accordance with Irembo’s policies and procedures
• Managing the performance, training, and development of staff within the communications team

Financial Management
• Managing a communications budget in a transparent, timely, and accountable manner.

We are particularly looking for someone with the following qualifications, experience, and skills
Education/Qualifications
• Bachelors/Masters's degree in communications / international development/marketing or a related discipline

Experience - Essential
• Significant work experience in a similar position, in corporate/institutional communications
• Experience in budget management

Knowledge & Skills - Essential
• Good understanding of key target audiences for Irembo (Governments, citizens)
• Flexibility, agility, creativity, and commitment to Irembo’s mission and vision.
• Excellent command of English and Kinyarwanda (oral and written) is a must and working knowledge of French is an advantage.
• Strong writing skills - with experience crafting web copy, press releases, media releases, etc.
• Social media savvy and creative
• Strategic, with an aptitude to identify opportunities for story-telling and awareness-raising initiatives
• Highly motivated multi-tasking professional with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and organize his/her own time
• Demonstrated strong team management and project management skills with meticulous attention to detail

About the Role:
The Advocacy and Communication Manager is responsible for identifying advocacy issues, preparing and implementing advocacy plans, documentation and communicating lessons and good practices from implementing programs to various users. The post holder will ensure a consistent and effective flow of information pertaining to Save the Children’s activities, keeping relevant teams up to date on all developments both internally and externally.
The managerial position has both an internal and external orientation, but works closely with the Senior Management Team, Program Development and Quality Team as well as the Program Operation teams in facilitating the planning and undertaking of advocacy, media and communication initiatives.
The post holder will carry out these responsibilities in line with Save the Children’s vision, country strategic plan, and principle of Child Right Programming.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Qualifications and experience
• Degree in social science, development, journalism.
• Masters or post graduate degree in communications and media will be an added advantage. At least 5 years of experience in undertaking advocacy, media and communication initiatives in humanitarian and development contexts
• Proven experience in analysing the situation of children using the child rights programming/ principles framework
• Proven track record of policy influencing with partners, government and civil societies/key stakeholders
• Excellent influencing and negotiation skills, including an ability to deal with people at all levels with credibility, tact, and diplomacy
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills, and an ability to produce good quality documents, information for a variety of audiences and communicate good practices
• Experience in policy and practice analysis and implementing strategic advocacy initiatives aimed at bringing changes in these areas
• Experience and proficency in graphic design software
• Strong inter-organisational skill such as networking, negotiation and communication.
• Willing and able to travel time to field offices to support field teams, as security permits
• Strong computer skills to produce advocacy documents and document and communicate good practices.
• High level of fluency in English, both verbal and written, required.
