Lecturer in Architecture job at Protestant University of Rwanda (PUR)
Job Description
The Lecturer will deliver courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, develop course materials, supervise design projects, and contribute to the academic progress of students. The role also includes conducting original research, publishing scholarly work, and participating in academic events. The candidate will assist in program and curriculum development, align content with industry and accreditation standards, and actively engage in community outreach and university-wide initiatives. The Lecturer will also support student internships and promote enrollment activities to enhance the institution's visibility and impact.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Teaching, Learning & Advising:
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, and studio sessions in architecture.
- Develop course content, assessment tools, and ensure alignment with academic standards.
- Supervise student work including design projects, dissertations, and field studies.
- Guide students in internship placement and follow-up visits.
- Address student concerns and ensure timely resolution.
- Incorporate innovative teaching technologies and methods.
- Mentor students on academic and career paths.
- Collaborate with other departments for interdisciplinary learning.
Research & Scholarly Activities:
- Conduct and publish original research in architecture.
- Participate in academic conferences, exhibitions, and symposiums.
- Seek research funding and lead collaborative projects.
Curriculum Development & Community Engagement:
- Contribute to the review and development of the architecture curriculum.
- Ensure compliance with industry and accreditation standards.
- Advise on marketing strategies and student recruitment efforts.
- Establish partnerships to enhance PUR’s visibility and community impact.
- Participate in university social and spiritual activities.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or PhD in Architecture.
- Professional registration with a recognized architectural body.
- Minimum of 1 year teaching experience at the university level.
- Demonstrated track record of design or research outputs.
Competencies:
- Strong architectural design and studio teaching skills.
- Proficiency in architectural software (AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, Adobe Suite).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Commitment to academic excellence and student-centered learning.
- Experience in architectural practice is an added advantage.
