Socio-economics Technician – Rwanda at Center for International Forestry Research

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Support Enterprise Establishment (Seed/Nursery & Wood Products)

  • Conduct assessments of legal, organizational, and business options for value chain integration.
  • Engage communities and stakeholders through consultations.
  • Identify capacity development needs and deliver training.
  • Develop business plans for enterprises.

2. Strengthen Value Chains for Tree Crops

  • Assess opportunities to enhance business linkages with midstream/downstream enterprises.
  • Design and deliver training modules on climate-resilient agribusiness.
  • Develop investment plans and labeling strategies.

3. Improve Enabling Conditions for Value Chains

  • Rehabilitate/create Rural Resource Centers (RRCs) and assess infrastructure needs.
  • Support ICT tools for climate resilience and energy efficiency.
  • Organize business roundtables, trade fairs, and linkages with financial providers.

4. Documentation & Advocacy

  • Prepare technical reports for donors, governments, and stakeholders.
  • Develop knowledge products (e.g., RRC guides, ICT tools).
  • Create communication materials for scaling up successes.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural/Forest Economics, Agribusiness, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s (e.g., MBA) preferred.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in value chain development, preferably with cooperatives/farmer associations.
  • Proven ability to work in interdisciplinary teams and mobilize stakeholders.

Skills & Competencies

  • Self-driven with strong project implementation skills under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda (written and spoken).
  • Motorcycle driver’s license (or willingness to obtain one within the first few month
