Tailoring Instructor (Expert in Sewing Instruction) job at Rwanda Climate Change and Development Network (RCCDN)
Job Description
The selected candidate will conduct daily tailoring lessons, focusing on practical garment construction and sewing techniques. In addition to technical training, the instructor will integrate life skills education in areas such as menstrual hygiene (including reusable pad-making), gender equality (through GALS and ECC methodologies), small-scale project planning, entrepreneurship, savings group formation, and reproductive health. The role requires a full-time commitment to be present at the Mayange-based training center throughout the six-month training period.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Teach practical tailoring skills including garment cutting, sewing, and finishing
- Train participants to make reusable menstrual pads
- Support trainees in learning entrepreneurship, group saving practices, and project development
- Integrate life skills topics including reproductive health and gender equality
- Maintain daily attendance records and training reports
- Collaborate with project coordinators to ensure high training quality
- Provide mentorship and guidance to young women and girls
- Reside in or be available full-time in Bugesera during the contract period
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
- Must be a Rwandan national
- Minimum of 15 years of proven experience in tailoring instruction
- Demonstrated experience training in multiple institutions, with verifiable references
- Knowledge of making menstrual hygiene products
- Strong ability to communicate and write in Kinyarwanda
- Willingness to relocate or reside in Bugesera for six months
- Strong interpersonal, mentorship, and community engagement skills
