PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Nurse Pharmacist – Pharmacy Stock In-Charge is responsible for the overall management of medical commodities and pharmaceuticals at the health facility level. This includes ensuring proper storage, inventory management, dispensing, reporting, and adherence to pharmaceutical standards and protocols.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use all pharmacy tools correctly according to stock management procedures for health products (stock cards, supply request book, register for special drugs distribution and register for Health Center materials).
  • Fill stock cards whenever there is a movement in or out of health center pharmacy 
  • Verify medical prescriptions according to protocols for pharmaceutical management
  • Maintain stock management and best storage practices for health products according to WHO and National protocols
  • Analyze health product consumption trends and provide technical guidance to Health Coordinators and Pharmacist on health product stock management decisions
  • Carry out distribution of essential drugs to patients on daily basis, respecting the FIFO method (First IN First Out), and informing patients on drugs dosage and mode of use
  • Receive and organize transport of medicines and other medical supplies from ARC pharmacy store
  • Write and submit requisitions of essential drugs and other medical supplies on weekly basis, track them with Kigali and with field-level pharmacies
  • Maintain recordkeeping procedures of health products stock as per ARC pharmacy regulations, including daily updating of stock cards and scheduled inventory reports (monthly/weekly)
  • Coordinate with other health staff on self-assessment of clinical skills and challenges.
  • Collaborate on the delivery of essential drugs to patients with other ARC departments, particularly with the ARC pharmacy
  • Maintain organization of pharmacy space, including ability to recall/locate items
  • Maintain knowledge and capacity to manage both Stock Pharmacy and Clinic Pharmacy, including following standard ordering procedures, maintaining buffer stock, coordinating with Kigali-level warehouse, and following storage protocols
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor, or any other ARC Senior Managers.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Education:

  • A1 in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • 2-3 years of experience in nursing in a clinical setting in a low-resource and in drug management or working in a healthcare pharmacy setup
  • Additional training or certification in pharmaceutical stock management, supply chain, or logistics is an added advantage.
  • Valid license and registration with the Rwanda National Council of Nurses and Midwives (RNCNM)

Technical Skills:

  • Proven skills in inventory management, stock forecasting, and drug ordering procedures.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical storage standards, including cold chain and controlled substances handling.
  • Competence in using pharmacy information systems, stock cards, and digital tools like Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with health commodity tracking tools (e.g., RHMIS, e-LMIS, stock registers).
  • Ability to detect and report adverse drug reactions and ensure rational drug use.

Knowledge:

  • Good knowledge of national pharmaceutical policies and guidelines (MoH and Rwanda FDA).
  • Understanding of humanitarian health supply chain systems and donor compliance (e.g., UNHCR, WHO).
  • Knowledge of essential medicine lists, drug categorization, and expiry control practices.
  • Strong understanding of dispensing protocols and patient counseling principles.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Oral/writing skills in Kinyarwanda and English or French
  • Experience working in protracted refugee situation and/or previous experience in Rwanda
