General description

The Senior Risk Officer is responsible for managing and communicating risk management policies at COPEDU Plc. This role involves assessing, identifying, and mitigating risks, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and advising senior management on risk-related matters.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Establish and maintain comprehensive risk management policies, frameworks, and procedures aligned with regulatory and industry standards.
  • Define risk appetite, tolerance levels, and mitigation strategies across the organization.
  • Conduct regular and ad-hoc risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and evaluate potential impact.
  • Analyze internal data and external trends to anticipate emerging risks and support strategic planning.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and operational processes.
  • Support the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Design and implement risk mitigation strategies and action plans.
  • Advise management on risk exposure, compliance issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Promote a strong risk-aware culture and corporate governance practices.
  • Communicate risk insights and compliance requirements across departments.
  • Review high-value contracts to ensure adequate risk controls.
  • Maintain records of insurance policies, claims, and renewals.
  • Ensure compliance with consumer protection laws and regulatory standards
  • Educate staff on risk management, compliance responsibilities, and governance principles.
  • Drive continuous improvement of risk and compliance programs.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, Finance, Accounting or a related field.
  • Certification, CPA or ACCA is an added advantage.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing risk and compliance frameworks
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments, analysis, and reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand broader business issues.

Experience needed

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in risk management, compliance, or internal audit working in financial sector is value added
  • Experience in the financial services, banking, or microfinance sector is highly desirable
