Job Title: Senior Accountant

Department: Finance Department

Reports To: The Chief Finance

Main Purpose of the Job- (Job Summary)

  • Deputize the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) to oversee accounts receivable management, creditors management, taxation, treasury management and ensure compliance of finance statutory (maintaining internal control systems).
  • Assist the CFO in providing strategic financial management advice to the University in order to ensure the strategic objectives of the business are realized.
  • Responsible for preparing, examining, and analyzing accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports for effective and efficient decision making.
  • Managing and coordinating different functions of Finance department to ensure accountability of resources, tendering, revenue collection and optimal resources allocation, utilization and ensure the universities’ financial operations run efficiently in line with policies, processes and procedures to achieve overall objective.

Main Responsibilities

  • Prepare the University annual budget and exercise control to ensure that spending is within the approved budget.
  • implementing the various finance functions strategies in line with overall finance strategy, policies, processes and procedures to achieve the institutions objectives and goals.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory deductions payments, laws and regulation.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management report and financial statements to show University’s profitability for viable decision making.
  • Management of credit control function to ensure the revenues are well captured in the system to manage cash flow
  • Coordinating the preparation of monthly management performance and financial reports to ensure accurate, completeness and timely reports to Management for informed decision making.
  • Work with the internal and external auditors for timely conclusion of external audits and to follow up recommendations thereof.
  • Maintain systems for cost-sensitivity analysis and early-warning of cost-overruns.
  • Ensuring security and accounting for fixed assets and Safe custody of financial accountable documents.
  • Supervise proper book keeping and filing to ensure all transactions are well captured
  • Timely tax planning and management for compliance with the regulator to avoid penalties.
  • Advising on short term investments for Surplus University’s funds for value addition.
  • Responsible for talent management in the department sections including coaching,mentoring, developing, motivating, training and evaluating staff to achieve highest levels of performance.
  • implementing change initiatives to achieve desired business plans and culture.
