Catchment Management Specialist at Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB):

The Catchment Management Specialist will be responsible for:

  1. Planning & Strategy:
    • Facilitate the development, dissemination, and implementation of catchment management plans.
    • Ensure alignment of national plans and strategies related to Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) into District Development Strategies (DSS).
    • Update catchment and sub-catchment management plans.
    • Develop and promote best practices for catchment management.
  2. Project Development & Implementation:
    • Initiate, develop, and implement catchment restoration projects.
    • Facilitate the development of catchment management project proposals.
    • Review catchment rehabilitation studies from stakeholders.
    • Develop and implement catchment rehabilitation activity plans and roadmaps.
  3. Technical & Analytical Support:
    • Compile, record, and analyze spatial data related to catchment restoration and soil erosion.
    • Contribute to the analysis and update of GIS products and tools for catchment restoration.
    • Participate in surveys to identify degraded areas and propose management solutions.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement & Capacity Building:
    • Facilitate the establishment and operationalization of catchment committees.
    • Provide technical support to catchment committees.
    • Contribute to the development of catchment committee work plans.
    • Prepare and implement public awareness programs on catchment management.
  5. Reporting & Coordination:
    • Produce catchment restoration and soil erosion status reports.
    • Coordinate and follow up on water-related interventions in catchments.
  6. Other Duties:
    • Perform any other tasks assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications & Experience

Academic Requirements

Master’s Degree (1 year of relevant experience required) in any of the following fields:

  • Geography
  • Water Resources Management
  • Watershed Management
  • Rural Engineering
  • Natural Sciences
  • Agricultural Engineering
  • Ecological Restoration
  • Agriculture Sciences
  • Natural Resources Management
  • Soil and Water Management

Bachelor’s Degree (3 years of relevant experience required) in any of the following fields:

  • Geography
  • Water Resources Management
  • Watershed Management
  • Rural Engineering
  • Natural Sciences
  • Soil and Water Management
  • Agricultural Engineering
  • Ecological Restoration
  • Agriculture Sciences
  • Natural Resources Management
