Bank of Africa Rwanda seek to recruit well qualified and experienced candidate to fill the following position within Head Office:
Position Title: Climate & Environmental Financial Risk Manager
Department: Risk Management
Job Purpose
To lead the identification, assessment, and management of climate-related and environmental financial risks across the bank’s operations, portfolios, and strategy. The role ensures alignment with regulatory expectations, BOA Group policies and international standards (e.g., TCFD, IFRS S1, IFRS S2), and the bank’s sustainability goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Risk Identification and Assessment
- Identify physical and transition climate risks affecting lending, investment, and operational activities.
- Conduct materiality assessments and climate-related scenario analyses.
- Policy and Framework Development
- Develop and implement frameworks, policies, and methodologies for managing climate-related and environmental financial risks.
- Ensure integration with credit, market, and operational risk management processes.
- Scenario Analysis and Stress Testing
- Lead the design and execution of climate and environmental stress testing models.
- Analyze impacts of climate & environmental scenarios on portfolios (e.g., floods, carbon pricing, regulatory change).
- Data Management and Metrics
- Work with internal stakeholders to source, validate, and analyze climate and environmental risk data.
- Develop and monitor climate-related and environmental Key Risk Indicators (KRIs).
- Regulatory Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure compliance with local and international regulations (e.g., TCFD, IFRS S1, IFRS S2, Basel principles and National Bank of Rwanda Regulations).
- Prepare climate and environmental risks disclosures and inputs for sustainability reports, ICAAP, and risk reports.
- Engagement and Capacity Building
- Collaborate with business lines and credit teams to embed climate and environmental risk considerations in decision-making.
- Organize training sessions to build awareness and knowledge across the bank.
- Committee Support
- Provide input and reporting to the Climate and Environmental Risk Steering Committee and Board Risk Committee.
- Draft policy papers, risk reviews, and updates for internal and external stakeholders.
- Climate Risk Integration into Portfolio Management
- Work with the Credit Department team to integrate ESG and climate risk in sectoral or client-level risk profiling.
- Support green finance eligibility criteria and exclusion policy development.
Qualifications, skills and Abilities Desired:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental economics, finance, risk management, sustainability, or related field.
- Professional certifications (CFA ESG, GARP SCR) are an advantage.
- Minimum 5–7 years in risk management, environmental finance, or sustainability-related roles.
- Strong understanding of climate and environmental science, sustainable finance, and financial risk management.
- Knowledge of climate and environmental scenario models (NGFS, IPCC), carbon risk, and ESG data tools.
- Analytical mindset with ability to synthesize complex data.
- Familiarity with regulatory and voluntary reporting frameworks (e.g., TCFD, IFRS, etc).
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and report-writing skills.
