About the Internship
The Innovation and Analytics Hub at OHCHR is seeking motivated interns to contribute to its pioneering work in leveraging data analytics, frontier technologies (including AI), and global trends analysis to enhance human rights monitoring and early warning systems.

Interns will be assigned to at least one of the following four workstreams and report to full-time professional staff while contributing meaningfully as team members.

Available Workstreams and Responsibilities

Workstream 1: Strategic Coordination and Planning

  • Assist in organizing strategic planning meetings, training workshops, webinars, and roundtables.
  • Draft communications and outreach materials.
  • Track and analyze strategic initiatives.
  • Support the establishment of an Office-wide Community of Practice on digital transformation, data, and innovation.

Workstream 2: Digital Technology, Data and Innovation

  • Support digital transformation projects.
  • Help design and implement data analytics tools and platforms.
  • Integrate innovative technologies into workflows.
  • Provide technical support and training on digital platforms.

Workstream 3: Risk Analysis and Early Warning

  • Monitor and analyze emerging human rights risks.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and early warning reports.
  • Support coordination of risk analysis activities.
  • Prepare briefings and presentations for UN prevention processes.

Workstream 4: Global Analytics and Field Support

  • Collect, analyze, and visualize data from field offices.
  • Help create analytics dashboards for decision-making.
  • Disseminate best practices to field offices.
  • Assist in capacity-building and training on data reporting tools.

Qualifications and Special Skills

Academic Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following:

  1. Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate degree (Master’s, PhD).
  2. Be in the final year or have completed a first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent).

Preferred Fields of Study (per workstream):

  • Workstream 1: Political Science, Communication, Public Administration, Business Management
  • Workstream 2: Computer Science, IT, Data Science, Human Rights Statistics
  • Workstream 3: International Relations, Law, Political Science, Social Sciences
  • Workstream 4: International Development, Geography, Data Science, Political Science

Desirable Skills:

  • Workstream 1: Strong coordination, analytical and communication skills; experience with visual design.
  • Workstream 2: Interest in innovation and digital transformation; experience with data analysis and digital tools.
  • Workstream 3: Knowledge of human rights principles; strong drafting skills and experience using diverse data sources.
  • Workstream 4: Understanding of data collection, geospatial information management, and system-wide analytics.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.

Additional Information

  • Internships are unpaid.
  • Travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern.
  • In-person internships are encouraged, but remote options may be considered depending on the situation.
  • Selected candidates must arrange for the appropriate visa and work authorization.
