Nutrition Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator
Purpose:

  • The Nutrition M&E Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Nutrition Specialist and with guidance from the Plan International USA Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning team to develop the tools to track the nutrition behavior changes at the community level and ensure efficient and effective implementation of the M&E component of the direct nutrition interventions.
    Dimensions of Role:
  • Develop the tools to track the nutrition behavior changes at the community level.
  • Ensure efficient and effective implementation of the M&E component of the direct nutrition interventions.
  • Support the development and implementation of nutrition-related reporting systems.
  • Assist Component 3 team to meet reporting needs.
  • Work closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning team to track nutrition activities and impact.
    Typical Responsibilities - Key End Results of Position:

  • Coordinate with the M&E team in developing, updating and implementing nutrition-related components of the annual M&E work plans.
  • Assist Component 3 in developing nutrition-related data collection tools, and training staff and partners in their use.
  • Assist Component 3 team and M&E team in monitoring progress towards nutrition-related project targets and outputs on a monthly basis.
  • Conduct data quality audits in field sites for quality assurance purposes.
  • Participate in evaluations to measure project results and document lessons learned.
  • Support Component 3 team and partners to understand M&E requirements and procedures including indicators, definitions and targets.
  • Support Component 3 team to collect success stories and conduct learning events
    Dealing with Problems:
    Application of knowledge required for the role, complexity of problems handled & the degree of investigation, analysis, & creative thinking required to solve them.
  • Ability to resolve a wide range of challenges related to monitoring and evaluation of nutrition programing.
  • Provide leadership and guidance on how to monitor and evaluate nutrition programs.

    Knowledge, Skills, Behaviours, and Experience Required to Achieve Role’s Objectives:
    Knowledge
  • Master’s degree in nutrition related discipline. Bachelor’s degree considered with extensive background in nutrition.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Monitoring and Evaluation in a complex and changing environment.
  • At least 3 years relevant experience in nutrition-related M&E.
  • Knowledge of best practices in field of monitoring and evaluation interventions related to nutrition and food security.
  • Strong understanding of nutrition indicators such as minimum acceptable diet, and women’s dietary diversity.
  • Understanding of USAID food security and nutrition interventions; Feed the Future experience preferred.
  • Effective team player, able to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Fluent in English and Kinyarwanda; French language skills a plus. Skills
  • Experience in designing and implementing monitoring and evaluation activities for food security and nutrition programming.
  • Experience developing and utilizing data collection tools for nutrition indicators such as minimum acceptable diet, and women’s dietary diversity.
  • Demonstrable analytical skills and experiences to identify and evaluate best practices and state-of-the-art approaches.
  • Experience conducting research and assessments related to nutrition programming is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

    Physical Environment and Demands:
    May be “typical office environment”; note if heavy lifting, climbing, excess travel, etc.
  • Typical office environment but with at least 40% time in the field including community visits.
  • This position will be based in Kigali, Rwanda, with time divided between the Hinga Weze project office, and the Plan International Rwanda Country Office. The position will require frequent field visits to the target districts in Eastern, Western, Southern and Northern Provinces.
