Job Summary
The Plumbing Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all hospital plumbing systems to ensure uninterrupted water supply, sanitation, and drainage. This role is critical in supporting hygiene, infection prevention, and smooth operation of medical services across departments including wards, theaters, laboratories, and staff facilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Installation and Maintenance of Plumbing Systems
- Install and repair water supply lines, drainage systems, valves, and fixtures such as toilets, sinks, showers, and faucets.
- Maintain the overall plumbing infrastructure across hospital buildings, wards, operating theaters, laboratories, and staff accommodations.
2. Preventive and Corrective Maintenance
- Conduct regular inspections to detect leaks, clogs, corrosion, and other potential issues in the plumbing network.
- Carry out preventive maintenance on water heaters, autoclaves, sterilizers, and plumbing-related hospital equipment.
- Respond to emergency repair requests promptly to avoid service disruptions in critical care areas.
3. Water Supply and Waste Management Systems
- Ensure continuous, safe, and clean water supply to all hospital departments and storage tanks.
- Maintain sewage, greywater, and stormwater drainage systems to prevent contamination and overflow.
- Support water chlorination and treatment activities where necessary.
4. Compliance with Health and Safety Standards
- Ensure that all plumbing work aligns with Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols and hospital sanitation standards.
- Adhere to national plumbing codes, safety regulations, and hygiene policies.
5. Support to Infrastructure Projects
- Participate in the design, planning, and execution of plumbing systems for new buildings, expansions, and renovations.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and construction teams during implementation.
6. Documentation and Reporting
- Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and materials used.
- Report major faults, potential hazards, and urgent needs to the Hospital Maintenance Officer or Facility Manager.
- Monitor inventory levels and request tools or plumbing supplies as required.
7. Collaboration and Communication
- Coordinate with other maintenance personnel including electricians, carpenters, and biomedical technicians for integrated facility management.
- Communicate effectively with clinical departments to plan plumbing activities with minimal disruption to patient services.
8. Emergency Preparedness
- Be available to respond to plumbing emergencies during and outside of regular working hours.
- Support the hospital in responding to infrastructure emergencies such as flooding, water contamination, and system breakdowns.
9. Energy and Water Efficiency
- Recommend and install water-saving fixtures and technologies to promote sustainability.
- Assist in the development and implementation of water conservation and eco-friendly plumbing initiatives.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Certificate or Diploma in Plumbing, Water Systems Maintenance, or a related technical field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a healthcare or institutional environment.
- Strong understanding of hospital sanitation and infection control practices.
- Ability to read technical blueprints and plumbing system schematics.
- Problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Physically fit and capable of handling fieldwork in various hospital areas.
- Willingness to be on-call for emergencies.

This position supports evidence-based decision-making, monitors key performance indicators, and contributes to service delivery improvement through robust data management and analysis. Key Responsibilities 1. Health Data Collection & Validation Ensure complete and accurate data collection from all service points (e.g., OPD, ANC, maternity, HIV, immunization, family planning). Utilize national tools such as HMIS, SISCom, EMR, and official registers. Perform routine data validation by identifying and correcting errors, duplications, and missing data in collaboration with clinical staff. 2. Data Entry and Management Enter data into digital platforms such as HMIS, DHIS2, and EMR. Maintain updated and organized digital and physical data records. Secure data backup and enforce data storage protocols. 3. Data Quality Assurance (DQA) Conduct regular data verification, consistency checks, and triangulation. Lead or support DQA activities as per Ministry of Health or partner standards. Build staff capacity in data quality improvement. 4. Data Analysis and Interpretation Analyze data to identify trends and create visual dashboards. Provide data insights to guide management decisions and improve performance. Track priority indicators such as immunization, ANC attendance, HIV testing and treatment, and malnutrition rates. 5. Reporting and Feedback Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the District Health Office, Ministry of Health, and partners. Ensure accuracy and timeliness in reporting. Share feedback with service units to address gaps and enhance data use. 6. Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Support Monitor program indicators and service performance. Support the implementation of improvement plans and assessments. Participate in surveys and evaluations conducted at facility or community levels. 7. Training and Capacity Building Train staff on data collection tools, indicators, reporting procedures, and data ethics. Support onboarding of new staff on HIS tools and data responsibilities. 8. Coordination and Communication Collaborate with nurses, pharmacists, lab staff, social workers, and CHWs to strengthen data flow. Coordinate with District M&E officers and partners for supervision and technical guidance. 9. Confidentiality and Data Security Ensure confidentiality and integrity of all patient and health program data. Implement data security measures such as password protection and role-based access control. 10.
