Research Associate and Unit Coordinator at King Faisal Hospital Rwanda Foundation (KFHRF)

Key Responsibilities

Research & Academic Support

  1. Work closely with the neurosurgeon to identify research opportunities based on clinical cases and surgical procedures.
  2. Coordinate data collection, analysis, and management for ongoing and prospective research projects.
  3. Support manuscript writing, abstract submission, and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  4. Maintain an up-to-date record of all academic outputs from the unit (presentations, publications, case studies).
  5. Assist in preparing research grant proposals and ethics submissions.

Unit Coordination & Clinical Documentation

  • Develop and maintain systems/tools for tracking surgical procedures, patient outcomes, and research-relevant clinical data
  • Support the development of clinical case databases for quality improvement and research purposes.
  • Assist in maintaining logs of surgeries, innovations, and teaching activities led by the neurosurgery team.
  • Act as a liaison between the unit and academic or research partners for ongoing collaborations.
  • In collaboration with the unit, conduct a national workforce mapping of the neurosurgery health workforce and clinical service provision, with recommendations on training and service

Administrative & Strategic Support

  1. Organize and coordinate regular research and academic review meetings.
  2. Support the development of strategic documents, reports, and presentations related to the unit’s work.
  3. Facilitate visibility of the unit’s achievements through documentation, newsletters, social media summaries, and internal hospital communication platforms.

Qualifications and Requirements

  1. Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Medicine, or a related field.
  2. Experience in clinical research, academic writing, or healthcare data management.
  3. Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, STATA, REDCap) is an asset.
  6. Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment with minimal supervision.
  7. Passion for surgical research, clinical excellence, and innovation.

Preferred Skills

  1. Previous experience supporting surgical or hospital-based research programs.
  2. Familiarity with academic publication processes and medical writing.
  3. Ability to work collaboratively with clinicians, researchers, and administrative teams.
  4. Clinical background
