IOM Rwanda’s Migration Health Assessment Center (MHAC) in Kigali is the leading provider of health assessment and travel assistance services for refugees and migrants traveling temporarily or permanently to the USA, Canada, Australia, UK, and New Zealand. Conducted by specialized and experienced personnel, MHAC assessments are based on the protocols defined by the admitting countries. IOM Rwanda´s MHD MHAC provides services to people living in Rwanda, as well as people from neighboring countries such as Uganda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Job Responsibilities:
• Under the overall supervision of the IOM Rwanda Chief of Mission, under the direct supervision with Migration Health Officer and close coordination of the National Migration Health Physician, and Senior Nurse, the incumbent following standard protocols, will assist national Migration health Physician and Nurses with interpreting during health assessment for Congolese, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Somalian, Libyan and other refugees. After receiving training and orientation from the Senior Nurse the incumbent shall perform the following duties and responsibilities:
• Interpret/translate correctly and accurately from English into one (or more, as an advantage), and vice versa, of the following languages of importance (English/Kinyarwanda/Lingala/ Swahili/French/Somali/Tigrinya/Amharic/Oromo etc.) during information sessions, pre/posttest counseling, medical history obtaining, laboratory tests and procedures, and physical examination, as conducted by IOM medical staff, with the following considerations:
• The interpreter must interpret to and from: the Physician/Nurse to the applicant and applicant to the Physician/Nurse, capturing the accurate meaning of the information provided and needed to be passed on.
• The interpreter must be capable of clearly expressing the statements and messages of medical nature, including but not limited to: sexual intercourse, behavior, and parts; sexually transmitted diseases; use/abuse of substances, mental disorders, cardiovascular diseases signs and symptoms, neurological diseases signs and symptoms, etc.
• The interpreter must hold with utmost respect/confidentiality any information shared during physical examination. Failure to do so represents a major breach of the code of conduct and standards IOM adheres to.
• Able to assist with directing patient flow or minor messenger’s tasks, if and when requested by the direct supervisor or one of the Doctors, the Data Processing assistants, Medical admin, Chief Nurse, Laboratory Technicians or Receptionists in the IOM clinics.
• The interpreter must be fluent in one or more of these languages: English, Kinyarwanda, French, Swahili, Somali, Tigrinya, Amharic, and Oromo.
• Assist with directing applicants ' flow or minor messenger’s tasks to the different units of the IOM Medical processing center.
• Assist in the referral process by accompanying applicants for consultation with the medical specialist at a non-IOM medical facility.
• Assist on the Receptionist and Data processing assistant on the appointment of the health assessment / follow up, registration of the applicant, preparing documents for the medical examination and dispatch of the medical document.
• Perform any other related duties as assigned by the direct supervisor

Job Education Requirements:
• Completed a Secondary School Diploma from an accredited academic institution, with four years’ experience in a similar position or
• Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• RSC certificate for interpreters
Job Experience Requirements: At least 4 years of working experience as a Radiology Technician preferably in a busy radiology facility of an international organization and or NGO running refugee programs. Knowledge of appropriate x-ray exposure times and safety parameters Knowledge of photographic development techniques. Ability to follow and enforce safety procedures. Ability to calibrate, configure, and adjust x-ray equipment in accordance with procedures and standards, Demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy and confidentiality in data and record keeping. Knowledge of basic nursing practices Proficient in Microsoft windows.
